Get to Know John R. Pulskamp

I work predominantly with residential properties in the San Fernando Valley.  Although many of my clients are seniors, I work with clients of all ages helping them to determine and fulfill their individual unique real estate needs.  I carry the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation, recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® as indicative of my having completed special courses of education and training to help me best assist older clients with their special concerns whtn buying or selling their properties.  I have also worked with many younger clients, often first time buyers or people purchasing residential properties as investments.

There are a number of communities in the San Fernando Valley, most of which are actually part of the City of Los Angeles.  An exception is San Fernando which is an independent city in and of itself.  For the most part these communities are not distinct one from the other as far as noticing a boundary when passing from one community to the next.

Within the San Fernando Valley there is a wide range of properties of various prices.  Some are very low, others very high, and everything in between.  Some of the construction is very recent and ongoing.  Other construction dates back to the early 20th century and there are some historical properties that date back to the 19th and even the 18th centuries.  The San Fernando Mission, for instance was founded in September of 1797.

I am happy to serve all of these communities.  Because of all the names of these communities it can be misleading to one not familiar with the San Fernando Valley.  In fact, they are all in close proximity to one another geographically.

Below is a list of most of these communities.

Arleta                                        Canoga Park                             Chatsworth

Encino                                       Granada Hills                             Lake Balboa

Lakeview Terrace                      Mission Hills                               North Hollywood

North Hills                                  Northridge                                 Pacoima

Panorama City                           Porter Ranch                              Reseda

San Fernando                            Shadow Hills                              Sherman Oaks

Studio City                                 Sun Valley                                  Sunland

Sylmar                                        Tarzana                                     Toluca Lake

Tujunga                                      Universal City                            Valley Glen

Valley Village                              Van Nuys                                   Warner Center

West Hills                                   Winnetka                                   Woodland Hills

I was first licensed in 1979, and have both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge where I also taught for several years. I taught for six years for the Los Angeles Community College District as well.

Six generations of my family have lived in Los Angeles and I have lived in the San Fernando Valley since 1951. My wife of over forty-five years, our children, and I have lived in Granada Hills since 1975.

Certifications

The more contact I have with my community, the better I will understand the ongoing needs and concerns of the community, and consequentially, the better I will be able to serve the community.  Whether "community" is construed to be the community at large, our local business community, the community of people from the real estate industry, or simply the community consisting of buyers and sellers of real estate, the above statement holds true.

In an effort to position myself to be able to best serve these various communities, and especially my community of clients, I have been and continue to be active in various organizations.  Additionally, I strive to stay up to date on issues affecting or potentially affecting my clients.  To this end, in addition to any state mandated continuing education requirements, I have also earned several professional designations and certifications.

MEMBERSHIPS

Associations of REALTORS®

Membership my local board of REALTORS® automatically requires membership in both the California (CAR) and National Association of REALTORS®(NAR)  I am a member of the Southland Regional Association of REALTORS® (SRAR which is the local board serving the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys in southern California), and therefore also a member of the California Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®.

The local associations typically provide MLS and other services to enhance members' ability to best meet the needs of clients.  The local, state, and national associations all oversee and enforce a high level of ethical conduct on the part of their members.  They also provide many educational and training opportunities for their membership.  All of this enhances the likelihood of REALTORS® being able to give better service with a higher level of professionalism than other real estate practitioners who may not be REALTORS®.

I am active within my local board, and serve on various committees and sub-committees.  For the past several years I have been on the Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity Committee where I served as the Chair in 2008.  I have also served on the Education Committee.  In 2009 I am serving as Chair of the Southland Regional Association of REALTORS® Ambassadorship Program Sub-Committee, which is a program instituted a few years ago by the National Association of REALTORS® wherin local boards of REALTORS® are linked with organizations of real estae professionals in other countries.  Our local association is linked to the Philippines.

My active participation in the local board and on the various committees helps me not only have an influence on the board and thereby the local real estate community, but also provides me an excellent opportunity to develop relationships with many of the area's most active and productive agents and brokers.  These relationships, of course, put me in a better position to help my clients sell or buy properties in our area.

Women's Council of REALTORS® (WCR)

I have been a member of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Women's Council of REALTORS®for number of years. I served two terms as Treasure for the chapter and in 2008 served as President of the chapter.  (Yes, men can be members!)  Because a large percentage of the top agents dealing with residential real estate are women, membership in this organization puts me in frequent contact with many of these agents.  Just as is the case with contacts established through my involvement on committees at the local board, my activities with WCR help me to develop connections with top agents again benefiting my clients.

Because WCR is a nationwide organization, it provides me a wonderful source for referring prospective buyers and sellers to top notch agents in areas I do not serve myself.
