Get to Know Dory Skemp
I hold both a Rhode Island and a reciprocal Massachusetts license and have been a realtor for 20 years and most of my business is in repeat sales and referrals. Mostly my listings and sales are located on the East Bay of RI, from Providence to Newport. I naturally specialize in historic properties both because of the number available in RI and because my college degree is in historic preservation and thus have a unique appreciation and understanding of them. I have also been a past president of the local historical society (7 years) and a former chair of the local historic district commission (5 years) as well as a board member of other local historic organizations.
I love real estate because I love working with people and I love going in an out of houses. I even have chaired the local house tours for the historical society for many years because of this love for houses. Every house, big or small or simple or elegant, is exciting to me. It's the discovery of details within them which is fascinating.
While I now work exclusively in real estate, I worked also as an administrator at the Rhode Island School of Design for 35 years and was successful in juggling the two jobs because of the enormous support of the principals at my agency, Harper, Ramos and Sheridan Real Estate. i grew up in the tri-state area of NY, NJ and Connecticut and also briefly lived on the North Shore of Boston before coming down here to RI in 1972. I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder as a journalism major back in the 1960s and received my degree in historic preservation from Roger Williams University.
I have been a million dollar agent and have received awards within my agency. It's an exciting business for me.
While I have specialized in historic properties, sometimes very distressed, and have listed and sold just about every type of residential property, I find now that I am working mostly with first time buyers and investors.
