In my "other life" I was a computer programer, a drywall taper and a clothing designer! I liked change and a good challenge. I was worried real estate might get boring for me. 17 years later, nothing could be further from the truth.
I was licenced in Edmonton, AB in 1992. The market crashed in 1994 and I went through my first "correction"!! Times were tough. Houses were worth less than the mortgages on them. I used to take a box of kleenex to my listing presentations, sellers were THAT upset. I was a single mom, newbie realtor and struggling on every front, but I made it!
In 1999 I moved to BC and started selling in the highly competitive Vancouver market right in the middle of another correction. "Leaky condo" was the name of the game! I had no idea what it was all about so I zoomed up the learning curve. As the market recovered, business picked up. Soon, every day was a flurry of traffic and bridges, condo showings with no lock boxes (so you rushed from listing to listing trying to stay on schedule so you could arrive at the showing before the listing realtor left!) and night time reading of Condo documents looking for the signs of water leaks! These were crazy days. The market was soon escalating almost daily. Multiple offers with 8,10 up to 15 buyers all competing for the same property were common place. Sleep would have to wait!
In 2005, I adopted a little girl and decided to make a dramatic life change. I moved to the interior of BC to gorgeous little Vernon surrounded by 3 lakes. It was heaven. The pace was slower, the people friendly, the real estate more relaxed. Raising a little girl by myself required me to give up my evenings and weekends of real estate work. I moved into the world of commercial real estate. Nothing warm and fuzzy but definitely 9 - 5. Life was good!
2008 brought me into my third correction. Prices leveled off and began to decline. For me, the work continued to be steady. In 2009, I joined an alliance of realtors marketing land developments, entire condo projects and government seized grow ops. I am now working with a team that specializes in cutting edge internet strategies to get projects sold.
And I was worried real estate might get boring!!
Now that you know my background, you can see that there isn't much real estate I have not done. I still list and sell houses, condos, farms, businesses and commercial properties. My favourite client will always be the excited first time home buyer with a thousand questions.
Most of my time these days is spent working on large real estate projects. I truly enjoy working on an 'A' Team, where everyone has their area expertise and together we are the "Machine".
Licenced in 1992, I have worked in the Edmonton, AB and Vancouver and Vernon, BC markets. Along with residential experience, I specialized for 2 1/2 years in commercial real estate.
