I was born and raised in Gaston County, NC - and have lived most of my life here. I traveled halfway around the world (twice) and back (twice, also) while in the US Marine Corps, but never saw anywhere that I would rather live! My wife of over 25 years, Wanda, and I have one son, Chip, who is now attending college with hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher.

I have been a competitive athlete for most of my life. I was a wrestler, runner, and high jumper in school and in the Marine Corps. After leaving the Corps, I competed in tennis and volleyball tournaments before returning to my early love of running. This eventually lead me to the sport of triathlon, and the discovery that I had some talent for bicycle racing. Over the past couple of years I have scaled back on competitive events and mostly enjoy getting out in the woods and running trails just for the fun of it. However, my proudest achievement in sport isn't really my own, but rather in seeing the progress made by the kids that I have coached, from under-7 year olds at the local YMCA all the way up to club and high school teams.

I enjoy playing guitar for fun. For many years I was the singer in a string of small-time local rock bands. I keep telling myself that I should "get the band back together". I really miss the adrenaline rush of performing for an audience. Ahhhh, someday...

I am also somewhat obsessed with photography. Please feel free to check out some of my latest images on Flickr.
