Probably half of my clients allow me to be their agent because they think I am honest, sincere, and a nice guy. As much as I am proud of that, I put forth tremendous effort to know my facts and my market. As more and more of our potential clients use the Internet for research, our usefulness dwindles unless we can provide specific and accurate first-hand information.
I spent my first twenty-odd years as an Electrical Engineer and was an independent consultant for 15 years before entering real estate. I lived in Atlanta for most of those years, and Destin was always my favorite vacation destination. I fulfilled a dream when I moved here in July of 2000. I can't imagine living anywere else.
My approach to real estate has been modeled after my engineering career. I prefer to be a real estate "consultant", helping clients to achieve their goals. I am definitely not a "salesman" and I might actually lose some potential buyers because of that. However, I always want to look back and be able to say that I did the best thing for my clients.
I specialize in beach condos in the Destin and Sandestin area. Most of my clients use their condos as second homes. Many of them rent them as well as a way to offset their expenses. Some are pure investors that never set foot inside their units.
One great side-benefit of this profession is the chance to meet so many nice and interesting people from all over the United States as well as some wonderful people from other countries as well.
I was dragged into the "black hole" of short sales kicking and screaming. To my surprise, I found I was good at it. Now at least 80% of my business is with buyers or sellers in short sale transactions. You can take all the courses you want, but there is no substitute for real world experience with short sales and foreclosures.
