With the Greater Lafayette and Tippecanoe County area being Bruce's home town, Bruce worked for Purdue University for 24 years as the Pest Control Coordinator, solving insect and rodent problems for Purdue's Married Student Housing which managed 1,244 campus apartments for students who were married and starting families. Bruce was one of the first to introduce the use of Gel Baits that were developed by Dr. Austin Frishman, to obtain control of the German Cockroach population that existed in many of the apartments at that time.
