"I may not tell you what you want to hear, but I tell you what you need to hear," CIR REALTOR® Al Wiebe says to his clients, because he believes honesty creates the trust that's needed in a REALTOR®/ client relationship - trust to build life-changing decisions on.
"You have to realize you're working with a person's single biggest investment they are ever dealing with, and it's something you can't take lightly," he says. "You keep your eye on what the markets are doing, and your customer's best interest in mind constantly."
Al came to real estate after successful careers in construction, and considerable time in a jewellery business he ran with his wife, which they were instrumental in bringing to the United States and Australia.
"That business taught me the importance of getting the details right, and that means every ‘i' dotted and every ‘t' crossed. I also dealt with people literally from around the world, and that experience has also been tremendously helpful," Al says.
Working with people has always been a highlight for Al, and he says meeting people - and helping them - is the best part of the work he does now.
Al is available pretty much around the clock, and working hard, long hours is just part of the business, like looking out for his clients' best interests and sharing his own wisdom and life experience to inform their decision.
For one thing, Al doesn't like to see people get in too deep financially. He says, for instance, that even when the bank qualifies clients for a mortgage, it might not make sense to go the full amount. "You can get into trouble quickly, depending on your situation, and I don't like to see people getting stretched beyond what makes sense for them."
As for his construction experience, there isn't a day that goes by that it doesn't come into play in real estate. He says, "You become a stager, an estimator, and you let people know what may need to be done to a home. Because of my experience I have a realistic idea of what the final tally might be."
Al has lived and worked in Okotoks for more than twenty years, volunteering a lot of time to the community. He's seen a lot of change, and a lot of growth, and many of his clients buy and sell there, although he also deals with clients in and around Calgary.
If you are looking for a well-informed, straight-shooting real estate agent with a thorough understanding of houses from the ground up, give Al Wiebe a call.
