You Are Leaving A Lasting Impression

"The present moment does not recede into the past. It advances into the future to confront us, spent or invested.” -Neville Goddard

Interesting concept, right? How our actions in the present can reverberate out into the universe for good -- or not so good.

This past week has had me thinking about how we 'impress' people.

Some spend a LOT of time 'making an impression' with varied results, some they may not even be aware of! We tend to act 'in the moment' and indeed, that's all that exists. But people are 'struck' by us in different ways. Ways that we can't predict, quite often. And control even less!

When you are cheerful, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are peaceful, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are helpful, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are authentic, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are overbearing, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are disrespectful, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are talking but not listening, it leaves a lasting impression.

When you are disruptive, 'throwing a tantrum to get your way', it leaves a lasting impression.

And you may 'get your binkie and pacifier' this time, but

next time you may not get the opportunity to be seen, heard or possibly even dealt with.

Because yall know my motto: The way someone does something is how they will do EVERYTHING.

And you left a LASTING.

IMPRESSION.

Hi, Candice A. Donofrio. It’s fascinating to consider that our everyday interactions can resonate far beyond the immediate moment, shaping perceptions and relationships in ways we may not fully realize. Your reflections inspire me to approach each encounter with greater intention and awareness.

I will freely admit I forget to be mindful at times. But people have long memories!

Candice you hit the nail on the head with this one.  (why that leaves an impression - why does my head hurt lol).  Any way, in a heart beat my mind went to a few incidences that people made quite the lasting impression on me, and not in a good way.  When I run into this I typically think - okkeedookee then.  And move on. Some paths just aren't meant to go down. And on the other side, so many folks have made a lasting and wonderful impression on me and I think of them to this day and smile.

Hello Candice - people observe even when it appears no one is present.  Things are heard, overheard and inferred too in similar ways.  There is much said about the importance of a first impression.  And while that is certainly true, it's the lasting thoughts that may matter most.

I have to watch my 'knee jerk response' and give grace sometimes, bc people can come across 'differently' and I know I am capable of that too. But not everyone will suspend judgment!

Good evening Peeps. We all have peeps in both categories because they did make a lasting impression. It's a mazing to be the interactions we have everyday and the impression that lingers.

Yes indeed, Candice. Even how you are dressed when you go out in your neighborhood leaves a lasting impression.

I was just having a conversation with someone about this. He was showing me a screenshot of his Microsoft Teams meeting for work. They were all barely dressed and did not look like 200k +/year professionals. I told him I am presentable on screen as if in person. Because people can screenshot like you just did!

Candice A. Donofrio - what a thought-proving post! I heard a new word today: Ihoochastontichotok, meaning: bringing time back from the past to now.

I like your post and thoughts very much. You gave me time to think about what you said. I hope you do not think I'm being disrespectful, because I'm not trying to be. You just enlightened me. I hope you don't mind me sharing what your list means to me:

When you are are cheerful, your smile is contagious!

When you are at peace, your blood pressure is right where it should be!

When you are helpful, others appreciate you more.

When you are authentic, you are transparent and people know who you are.

When you are overbearing, people keep away like recognizing poison ivy.

When you are disrespectful, you lose friends and loved ones.
When. you are talking and not listening, you're rude and disrespectful.

When you are disruptive, you deserve what you get because perception is the reality.

Again, I mean no disrespect to you Candice. You have a loud voice that resonates with me and deserves to be heard. I learn a lot from you.

Ihoochastontichotok . . . Native American term?

Candice A. Donofrio - here's the story:

"In Koasati, which is spoken in Louisiana and parts of Texas, the word “ihoochastontihchotok” means “bringing time back from the past to now.” It’s one of nearly 100 terms from an equal number of languages represented in author and photographer B.A. Van Sise’s latest book.

On the National Language, published today, features evocative portraits of speakers and learners across the United States who are working to keep the country’s many endangered languages alive, with each image encapsulating the meaning, history, and culture of the term that inspired it.

Language is a cultural binder. Every language has cultural concepts unique to them that exist only in their language; Italians have no word for ‘privacy’ but a word for ‘doing something beautiful and making it look effortless,’” Van Sise explains to Nice News. “In English you can ‘do something on a whim,’ ‘get the gist of an idea,’ or ‘run amok into a brouhaha’ and be absolutely unable to say any of that in any other language. Language is tied to who we are.” Hear two of the languages being spoken."

Interesting! I looked up the word ihoochastontihchotok
and got nothing

but looking up Koasati I learned it is a Native American language of Muskogean origin.

(Italians have no word for 'privacy' bc they want to be in your face all the time! (from experience! LOL) )

Language(s)  . . . a fascinating topic!

Great words of wisdom. Not answering the phone or returning calls leaves a sour taste lasting impression, but it provides opportunities for those who answer the phone. 😉
