Entice me

That initial moment. A brief glimpse, and suddenly your pulse increases. Your temperature raises. You are excited and you want more. You want it now. Yeah, your curiosity is leading you closer. You feel the anitici . . . . . . . . . . . pation.

Yes, that is what you want in your blog posts.

What?  You thought I was talking about something else? No. I am talking about your blog posts.  Now granted, we have all been told that it is good to post here and then use the post as clickbait to get folks to see the rest on your website. It helps your business and how your website is regarded by Google.

However, some folks have gone too far. They create a blog post where 50 words are said with the person's name, address, phone number and where they sell real estate - but then they don't say ONE SINGLE THING about their headline. Instead, they want you to read the article elsewhere and so they just leave a CLICK HERE .

I, for one, have stopped clicking there. In fact when I see a number of those posts in a row, I stop clicking on that person's posts. Earlier this week Kathy Streib published a post about getting more comments on your posts. I mentioned this trend and she thought this subject may make a good post. So, here it is.

If you want to "tease" us and get us to click on your link, then for goodness sake, give us SOME piece of information that would entice us (no your business address does NOT entice me).

Hi Rocky,
Totally agree! There are a number of posts I have hoped were a candidate for Second Chance Saturday (based on their headline), but all they are is a link to a post somewhere else.

Hi Rocky- you did a great job with this!!!  Like I've said, if you don't want to take the time to give us some information, then I am choosing not to take the time to read or even click on the post.

Rocky the only blogs I will click on the "CLICK HERE", are those for the members who I regularly follow, otherwise I move on.  If it is clicks they are looking for they will not get them from me.

Hi Rocky,

You enticed me!  Great job with this.  I do not like it when there is nothing more than a great title and little else but a link.  This is lazy blogging.  In fact, it is not blogging at all. It is "click-bate." Have a memorable Saturday.

PS - I hope a few of those bloggers read this and, more importantly, get the hint! LOL

I usually do not click on the links.

It is best to share your message in the post.

I very rarely click on anyone's "click here for more" even if they do include a few paragraphs first. But no information at all? That "rarely" becomes "never."

I totally ignore those Rocky, and I just move on. A title can get me interested...an empty page wastes my time!

Know your purpose for writing. Mine is to connect with other like minded real estate agents and REALTORS. I paid for the SEO and received zero return on investment. My business has growth through referrals and actually picking up the phone.

However I agree with you. I want information about the enclosed URL before I make a decision to invest my time to click on it.

Rocky Dickerson   what great points and I would have missed this post had it not been for Kathy Streib  featuring it. There are robo commenters and then there are robo posters too. Just to be clear I am not a fan of either of them. Endre

It is so true, Rocky. Many times, I just click off when seeing a wall of type or when an article is being copied-pasted. Not a fan!

Great advice Rocky Dickerson - like others have said I would have missed this post if not for Kathy Streib posting it and I’m glad she did.  I love a good blog post and go there for the meat and potatoes but when there’s only a lettuce leaf I have to move on to the next post

Hi Rocky - I have not done that on my blogs.  I start with my own website and then modify it slightly if necessary if it does not relate enough to real estate with a link to the original.  Not on my monthly Constant Contact I do give a good start and then read more.  I see you point, yes.

Rocky:

The words "Click Here" can often raise a red flag for me, and no doubt others. Sometimes writers forget about their audience when writing and the online experience they are providing, or not.
