I think some of these are done by people who didn't want to do them in the first place and made sure they would never be asked again!  that was the way my husband got out of grocery shopping.   I asked for 6 lemons for a recipe- he brought home 3 because I surely didn't need 6 lemons - etc - I stopped asking after that
