morningside: Why They Call it Morningside - 07/15/10 04:01 AM
I just read a post by one of my favorite bloggers Why they call it Rock Creek by Patricia Kennedy, Washington D.C.'s quintessential REALTOR®. Earlier in the day I learned why they call it Morningside Park and Morningside Heights.
What's in a name?
The area that is now Morningside park was described as "inconvenient for use" by a city surveyor in 1867, meaning difficult to build property on, so it was made into a park, which was called "Morning-side park" because its east facing slope catches the morning sun. The neighborhood that developed around the park became Morningside Heights.

Harlem was established in 1658 by the Dutch and named Nieuw Harlem after the Dutch city of Harlem. This large section of Manhattan real estate has a deep spirit, culture and history.
