New York City's Newest Neighborhood begins construction

Phase I Ready for Occupancy in 2015
While Londoner's will be proud this summer when they host the 2012 Olympics in London, Manhattanites can be proud that New York City lost the bid to London several years ago. The center piece of New York City's bid was a new Jets Football stadium to be built in midtown Manhattan at the Hudson Yards. Many Manhattanites neither wanted the stadium or the Olympics here.
So instead of a football stadium and the Olympics New York City is getting a new 21st century neighborhood. What was … (14 comments)

chelsea: Low Appraisal: Be Prepared! It Shouldn't Be A Deal Breaker! - 08/20/10 04:32 AM
There has been a trend for low appraisals. Banks are pushing for low appraisals, and often won't accept a second appraisal or if they do they take an average of the two. In NY banks are no longer allowed to hire appraisers. They have third party management companies hire appraisers. They come off a rotating state roster so they are not always familiar with the area, neighborhood or buildings. Not that many ever were!
One of my first buyers was an attorney from Atlanta that wanted a Manhattan pied-a-terre. Size was not an issue since the apartment was only going to … (7 comments)

175 Ninth Avenue (No condo towers for Seminary)
The General Theological Seminary has reversed course on a plan to build a 15- story condominium tower on its campus after news of the plan met with fierce community opposition as reported in the NY Sun. The seminary wanted to build a 151-foot tower to generate $21 million in revenue for renovation of its existing 19th century buildings.
