saline: I Want 600 Points ! - 05/08/07 02:09 PM

I was working with a awesome family moving to the Ann Arbor/Saline area. They had been referred by a friend who's husband was hiring thim for a job with his company.
We had looked at a lot of houses, in Saline, Michigan, but nothing seemed quite right. We were driving through a subdivision having just looked at a house. We noticed a home that had a sign in front of it but it DID NOT show up in the MLS. Turns out it had expired and the builder/realtor had not re-listed or taken his sign down. Truth be told, he was shocked … (18 comments)

saline: Saline Valley Farms It's History Then and Now. - 04/28/07 11:39 AM
The Saline Valley Farms, a farm cooperative on nearly 1000 acres, 3½ miles south of town, was begun by Harold S. Gray in 1932. Oral historian James Cameron has written, "(The venture) attracted struggling families during depression years. Over one hundred members lived with their families on site and worked cooperatively to operate a dairy, orchards, poultry house, and gardens. Success mushroomed as members developed a store at the farm to sell to the public and used delivery vans to bring fresh produce and canned goods to Detroit and the suburbs. By the mid-1950s, with the death of the cooperative's founder … (15 comments)

saline: Saline Michigan History - 04/28/07 11:32 AM
In the 19th century, Orange Risdon was attracted to what is now Saline, but at the time was part of the Territory of Michigan. He was surveying a military road from Detroit to Chicagoand was working at the request of the federal government.
The road was subsequently known as the Chicago Road, later called U.S. 12 or Michigan Ave. MI Ave is still the main street in Saline going right through downtown. Michigan Ave runs from Detroit to Chicago.
On April 5, 1825, Risdon purchased 164 acres from the government. In time, he built his house on the land and it … (5 comments)

saline: February Housing Stat's for Ann Arbor, MI - 03/16/07 12:40 AM
Here is the executive summary from Big House Data in Ann Arbor, MI. This is a great company that I hire to do the research and compile the data for me.
You can read the entire report here. I maintain it is still a great time to buy, the sellers are more realistic in their pricing and the buyers are having great opportunities. We wrote a offer yesterday on a 2100 s.f house in Ypsilanti Township for under 200,000. This would have sold for more a few years back. In fact it started at 289,900. Now what a opportunity for a … (2 comments)

saline: No more PMI starting in 2007, Market Stat's - 01/03/07 09:53 PM
It has taken years to get through our legal system, but it has finally made it!  Brand new legislation now allows homeowners to deduct mortgage insurance premiums from taxable income. The law is effective for the 2007 tax year.   A couple of things to know: It is only for new purchases starting 1/1/2007. Homeowners combined income cannot be more than $100,000. It will be re-examined at the end of the year to decide what changes need to be made. More details to follow if they will allow new refinances to also take the deduction. Now is the time to encourage buyers … (5 comments)
