localism: Saline Hospital Among TOP 100 in Country - 04/17/09 06:55 AM
St. Joe's Mercy Hospital in Saline, MI.
Solucient, a leading procider of information for the healthcare industry has said the St.Joseph Mercy Hospital in Saline is in the top 100. Now being a city of only 7000 residents but surrounded by Lodi, Saline, Pittsfield and Saline Townships this was tremendous news.
As a mom of 5 who has made many visits there with broken arms, fingers and thumbs this was excellent news. Of course if you live in Saline you already knew it was great news. The emergency room staff and doctors are excellent and there is very little wait time.

localism: Dhu Varren Ann Arbor "We Want New Carpet" - 09/18/08 11:02 AM
Broker Bryant wrote on a final walk through that has inspired this post.
I have sold five homes in Dhu Varren over the years.  This situation occurred at the closings of one of those homes.
AT THE CLOSING TABLE, the Buyer Agent, "there is a HUGE spot on the carpet and we want new carpet."
"Well, I'm sorry but, my sellers have moved out of country and you should have let me know last night after your walk-through. However, as my clients have moved out of country, I will pay to have it cleaned."
No, they wanted new carpet. It was huge.

localism: Washtenaw County Comprehensive Market Data - 09/09/08 03:27 PM
Nationally the housing market is taking a beating. But, the last few days, interest rates have fallen again into the 5.65% range in Washtenaw County.
Sales price average was $196,751.00. For the year it is down 7.5%.
The average days on the market for homes and condos is 87. But according the Big House Data this does not reflect expireds and re-listings. If you figure those in the DOM on is close to 130.5.
Once again, the homes priced competively, and in good condition are selling first.
As a listing agent in Ann Arbor, I am giving more weight to the homes … (10 comments)

localism: 1535 Patricia, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104... "A Sneak Peak" - 09/08/08 09:15 AM
1535 Patricia is located in Hollywood Park subdivision in Ann Arbor. The Elementary School is Abbott and the backyard connects to the huge playground. No worries, the playground equipment is far enough way and there is a hedge behind the house.
The house is a tri-level with three bedrooms up, kitchen, livingroom, nook and powder room on the first floor with a full finished basement. A total of 1550 square feet.
This home will go in the MLS tomorrow, as the owner was having the ugly paneling in the basement removed and dry wall added.
It has an updated kitchen … (15 comments)

localism: The Sidetrack Bar and Grill in Ypsilanti, MI - 08/28/08 01:28 AM
The Sidetrack Bar and Grill is a charming restaurant in Ypsilanti Michigan; it is located in Depot Town and has the best burgers. It is a completely laid back atmosphere and reminds me of the way life use to be, with lots of old photos on the walls of the history of the SideTrack Restaurant.
The Sidetrack has been in business since the 1800's when it was started across from the railroad tracks in Ypsilanti. The Amtrak Train passes through there although it never stops anymore. You have to pick up a ticket to Chicago in Ann Arbor.

localism: Saline Schools and Calendar - 08/25/08 01:20 PM
It is that time of the year again, and as the commercial says, "It's the most wonderful time of the year." This time next week, all the kids will be ready for opening day on Tuesday, September 2nd.
The calendar for Saline School Year 2008 and 2009.

The annual Ypsilanti Heritage Festival starts this weekend, Friday the 15th through Sunday the 17th.
This is the 30th year anniversary for the Heritage Festival held at Frog Island, Riverside Park, Depot Town and downtown Ypsilanti. A gorgeous setting along the Huron River with plenty of things to do for people of all ages.

Some of my favorite events are the Civil War Encampment, all the music at Riverside Park and the arts and crafts. The Ancestors gathering is also a great event featuring the life and times of the history and settlement of Ypsilanti, MI.

localism: Sunflowers in Michigan - 08/04/08 12:49 PM
We were going to our lake cottage this weekend at Manitou Beach, Mi. and passed the most amazing sunflower garden. We were driving too fast to stop but on the way home, I made my husband pull over to get some photos.
There were at least 6 other cars doing the same thing.
When I think of sunflowers I think of being in college and staying up all night playing bridge and eating sunflower seeds. I also think of all the baseball games I sat at with my boys, seems like that is a stable with baseball players.

localism: Argieros Italian Restaurant in Ann Arbor - 08/04/08 04:29 AM
Argieros Restaurant is located in the Kerry Town area of Ann Arbor, Mi. It is the only Italian Restaurant still owned and operated by a true Italian family.
Argieros has been in Ann Arbor since 1977, and is family owned and operated. We love to go there, it is a relaxed atmosphere and the food is yummy. In the summer months there is a gated patio so you can enjoy being outside.
My favorite dish is the lasagna and there is no comparison between Argieros and Olive Garden for Italian food.
We met some friends there a few weeks ago that … (2 comments)

Ann Arbor was just named the Number 1 City to retire in for healthy living.  Everyone wants to be healthy and everyone will eventually retire. Sounds good to me !
AARP worked with Bert Sperlings Best Places, they looked at hundreds of cities throughout the United States for the 20 measures of vitality. They looked at both the physical aspects of the communities like air and water but also at the health and habits of those who lived there.
Just a few of the 30 criteria, they looked at were: Life expectancy, Healthy eating score (how many fruits, vegetables, and whole … (21 comments)

localism: Declaring the Value of What you are Worth? - 07/18/08 12:45 PM
All Realtors are not the same. We all know that, we all do things differently. For instance, I have found it is better to under promise and over produce. If I say, I will return all calls in an hour, then I try to return them right away.
When I meet with my sellers for the first time face to face, they have already been sent my marketing materials and a package of information electronically for their review. They in return have sent back to me, the Pre-Listing Questionairre, so that I know where they are in the mortgage obligations, their … (71 comments)

localism: Should you Buy or Rent in Ann Arbor, Michigan - 07/13/08 11:44 AM
Should you buy or rent if you are moving to Ann Arbor or the surrounding areas in Washtenaw County ? We get asked that question frequently.
The answer is "it depends on your individual circumstance".
One of the first things to ask yourself is, How long will you be living in Ann Arbor?
In the past it definately made more sense to buy, but now it really depends. If you are a Medical Resident and will only be here 3-4 years, then perhaps renting is the best option. Do you have a dog, that needs space to run? All of those … (11 comments)

localism: Ann Arbor Farmers Market - 07/12/08 08:37 AM

I made my first visit this year to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. I enjoy going, it is a happy place. Today I took my camera and when I took a photo of some fruits and vegetables, I gave them my business card and told them to read my blog.
The Ann Arbor Farmers Market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the growing season and features locally grown crops, flowers, herbs and plants. There is also different artists that sell their art work when it is open.
Today I ran down and got some fresh corn, yummy Michigan cherries, … (20 comments)

localism: Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County Market Report for June 2008 - 07/10/08 01:06 PM
I get my data from Big House Data, a company in Ann Arbor, that compiles all their data from the Ann Arbor Board of Realtors. It varies somewhat from what the actual Ann Arbor Board of Realtors puts out. Either that or it is interpreted differently from the Ann Arbor News.
The Ann Arbor News through MLive.com reported the average price home to sell was $223,802.00. This price is back to the 2000 prices of home sales. So in 8 years, poof.... the sellers have lost value in their homes.
Big House data is reporting that the average price home sold … (6 comments)
