 A TESTIMONIAL FROM ONE OF MY CLIENTS

We made a decision in early [in year] to visit locations in Central Florida to purchase the perfect piece of property to build our retirement home.  After several visits, we found that we were continually drawn to Lake County, specifically to the Mount Dora / Tavares area.  In December, the focus of our visit was to meet with a local realtor to locate some specific properties for us to visit. We perused the MLS looking for land within our price range and after finding a number of properties that interested us, we began searching for a realtor.  My search brought me to the website of Terry Barnett.  Being a bit of a skeptic when it comes to internet communications, I emailed Terry asking if he would be interested in working with some out-of-towners who had a desire to purchase property at some point within the next 6 months.  I provided him with enough information to let him know the direction we were looking in, but not so much that I was revealing any personal information about ourselves.  Terry quickly responded with an offer of assistance whenever we were ready to start looking.  

Within a couple of days Terry contacted me by phone to let me know that he had located some properties that may be of interest to us.  Even though our personal situations made it necessary for us to re-schedule our trip a couple of times, Terry never became disinterested - he kept in touch without being overbearing or pushy.  

When we finally made our trip in mid-December, Terry was more than willing to accommodate our schedule, as we were traveling from out-of-town to meet with him.  Knowing that we were unfamiliar with the area, when we met Terry at his office he had already prepared a package containing a list of properties - some that we specifically requested as well as a number of others that he located in the general vicinity - including maps and driving directions for us to make our way around the area.  I immediately felt a sense of comfort, knowing that he had thought ahead about his clients, and not just about selling a property.  He ‘turned us loose' to drive to the properties at our leisure.  Without my having said a word, he had gotten the sense that was how we really wanted to look at the properties - taking our time, without feeling pressured.  

By mid-day, and a number of properties later, we decided that the properties that we had asked to see were not really what we were looking for after all.  We reviewed our likes and dislikes about the properties / locations that we had visited that day, and targeted a more specific area of interest.  After speaking with Terry, he suggested that we relax for the rest of the day, taking in the sights of beautiful downtown Mount Dora.  He provided us with suggestions for accommodations for the evening, and we made plans to meet early the following morning.  By early the next morning, Terry had located a half dozen more properties for us to visit, and would be accompanying us for the morning.  He had read through our likes / dislikes from the previous day and had a much better feel for what our dream property would look like.  The first property that day was much more in tune with what we were looking for, but he could tell it wasn't putting us ‘over the top' with enthusiasm.  We proceeded on to the next parcel, and when we pulled onto the land we appeared to have found heaven.  It was as if Terry had climbed into our heads and taken a picture of what we were looking for.  Within 24 hours of meeting us, he had located our dream property.  We left Mount Dora that day on Cloud 9, and couldn't thank Terry enough.  He was as excited for us as we were for ourselves.  

As promised, Terry got to work right away writing up an offer, which, after minor modifications, was accepted and the process was underway.  Being from out-of-town and not having local business contacts in the Lake County area, finding a lender willing to finance that particular parcel of land proved to be no easy task.  Being empathetic to our plight, Terry offered suggestions and provided us with contact information regarding local lenders, and the journey continued.  Even though the transaction continued to offer up its' share of obstacles, through it all Terry held steadfast and reassured us by providing assistance on issues as we encountered them.  His continued support encouraged us, his patience is unmatched and his demeanor puts you at ease right away.  No matter the nature of the problem, Terry handled everything with the utmost of professionalism, all the while keeping in mind the people that he was interacting with, not just the transaction that he was working on.  Where another Realtor may have chosen to walk away, Terry stuck with us, pointing us in the right direction and encouraging us to keep taking the necessary steps, one at a time, to achieve our goal and turn our dream into a reality.  Terry Barnett truly makes dreams come true!
