Many years ago, my dear husband casually suggested I would be "good in real estate."
Had he suggested I work the late shift at Hooters, my expression would have been the same.
Utter confusion.
Me? Sell houses? I can't sell anything! I'm not a "people person" (what DOES that mean, anyway?) and besides, I can't sell anything.
Besides (insert haughty attitude here) I'm, well, I'm better than that! I'm a professional. I'm creative, I'm funny, I have great ideas, I'm a workaholic...besides, I'm, well, uh, too darned smart to be a s-a-l-e-s-p-e-r-s-o-n. (insert shudder here)
Oops...seems I had a very low opinion of real estate agents. And I guess a pretty high opinion of myself.
Obviously that has changed.
Well, okay, I still have a pretty high opinion of myself but now it's called self-confidence. And now I have a great feeling about myself as a REALTOR. I'm pretty daggone good at it, if I do say so myself. If you'd rather hear that from my clients, though, I can put you in touch with some of them, too.
It seems my extensive background in marketing and advertising serves me very well in knowing exactly how to promote homes for sale. My work ethic holds me in great stead when I'm working 14 hour days finding just the perfect home or perfect buyer for my client. My sense of humor allows me to finesse a lot of difficult situations. And the negotiation skills I've honed over the years are even better than I ever realized.
I finally realized that as a REALTOR, I am not a salesperson! I am not selling anyone anything. I am helping folks through the sometimes confusing, sometimes stressful, sometimes harried, often baffling, process of buying or selling a home. I am here to provide guidance, advice, resources and expert knowledge.
It turns out real estate is the perfect career for me. I get to splash my picture on my marketing materials and I get to use the word "I" a lot.
Who knew?
Seriously, though, real estate is totally about YOU. What you want and what you need, from finding a qualified, competent, honest lender to finding the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood or finding the qualified buyer for whom your house is THE ONE. From negotiating a contract to getting through the home inspection and getting to the settlement table with your checkbook and sanity in check. All along the way, I'll help you avoid the landmines and pitfalls the process can unexpectedly present.
You CAN buy or sell a home. And I can help!
