Not all agents start their career in real estate. And since buying and selling homes is a complex process with a number of different variables, sometimes the best agents with the freshest perspectives are from another industry. John Turner is one of these agents.
John started his career in pulmonary medical research up in Montreal, . This transitioned into a career of studying sleep disorders both clinically and in research. When UNC offered him a job, John along with his wife and three children packed up and left for North Carolina . After working at the university for three years, John managed a sleep disorder company with labs across the state. Tired of traveling and constantly leaving behind his family, John restlessly looked for a new career.
In the year 2000, the Turners bought land in Southern Village to build a new home. John found himself truly enjoying the whole buying and building a home process. He began to think that perhaps a career in real estate would offer the challenge and future he had been searching for. This new direction was not a total surprise. John and his wife had owned a house that dated back to the 1800's. Together they renovated and sold the house before leaving . He remembers the project sparking an interest in general construction, renovation and design. So the move into real estate felt quite natural for John.
Because he grew up in a big family, John is most comfortable when working with others. His patience and relaxed manner (no doubt the result of growing up the youngest of six) puts his clients at ease. John commits himself to keeping an open mind, never closing the door on an unknown experience. He lives with an honest creed that encourages him to take risks, to keep learning.
Today, John and his wife live in Orange County with their youngest, Katie. His wife Karen teaches 4th grade at McDougle Elementary. Away from work, both John and Karen volunteer with their church, the King's Park International Church in Durham . And like any true Canadian, John is a steadfast fan of ice hockey. His allegiance to the Carolina Hurricanes pits him against his two grown boys, both of whom remain loyal to Montreal .
John has lived in Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Durham. He knows the areas from his own personal experiences not from hearsay.
Someday, John would like to build another home or renovate several at a time. But for now, he is satisfied helping people navigate the Triangle's complex real estate market. He loves helping first-time buyers and selling unique properties with special needs. For John, true success results from his customer's complete satisfaction.
