About Me

Hi, I am Nancy Sanders.  I have lived in Big Sur for close to 30 years and have come to know the area well.  For the past 19 years my husband and I have been owners and operators of the Big Sur River Inn.  This is a small family-oriented resort located about 25 miles south of Carmel alongside the Big Sur River.  There is a motel, a grocery store, a Valero gas station, and a restaurant with bar.  The Big Sur River Inn is open seven days a week starting at 8:00am, and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The menu is American-California food, dress is casual.  Also on site is a unique gift shop called Heartbeat. For more information visit our website at www.bigsurriverinn.com.

As a licensed real estate broker in the State of California, I enjoy meeting people, visiting properties, and matching the needs of a buyer with the home they are seeking.   I am proud to work with Keller Williams Realty in Carmel.  Our office of over 100 agents is extemely dynamic and forward-looking.  We employ the latest in technological tools to bring our clients the most complete and up to date property profiles available.   We work as a team to reach out to a broad network of contacts and bring buyers and sellers together.

It is my pleasure to hear from people who want to learn more about Monterey County and the communities of Big Sur, Carmel, Carmel Highlands, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove and Monterey.  Please visit my website at www.californiacoastlands.com  or call me at 1-800-779-7967.  Better still, plan a trip to the Monterey Peninsula area and we can meet and go out to see some of the amazing real estate opportunities on today's market.

Questions and Answers

Where is Big Sur?

It is a long stretch of coast with no large town center.  Big Sur is south of Carmel, California, and north of the Hearst Castle at San Simeon and is accessed by California Highway One.

Do you know where there are any Coastal Redwood Trees?

Yes, there are hundreds all along the Big Sur coast.  They can be viewed from Highway One.  In Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park you find yourself in a redwood forest.  One tree that was cut down years ago is being used as a demonstration.  A sign explains that by counting the rings you can tell how old the tree is.  This particular tree is very large and is estimated to be more than 1800 years old.  It is humbling to realize that many of the redwoods have been growing here for hundreds of years.

Do you ever see whales migrating?

Yes we see them all the time while driving in the car along the highway.  However to really get a good look, it is best to pull off the road onto a turnout.  That way you can take your time and get out the binoculars.  To get a close-up view you can take a whale watching trip on a boat out of Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf.
