Palatka, Florida? Where the heck is Palatka, Florida? Let me say first of all, I am a Realtor but not in Palatka. My home and business is located in Brevard County, Florida. Thta is Florida's Space Coast, Cocoa Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral.... you know the general area. Only about 45 miles from Orlando......Mickey's hometown! OK, why write about Palatka?
Its my hometown. It is where I am headed for the weekend. A great little town with about 10,000 or so residents. It is located in Putnam County. Some folks know it as "The Bass Capital of the World." Located about 50 miles south of Jacksonville, about an hour from Daytona, 30 miles from the oldest city St. Augustine,, Palatka is central to a lot of places. Lest I forget, it is about 40 miles east of Gainesville, home to the University of Florida (Go Gators).
Palatka is still a small town. Downtown you find a sleepy little main street, St John's Ave), a city dock at he St John's River, the County Courthouse in the center of town. Lots of murals painted throughout the area, even one as a tribute to the connection between the Reverend Billy Graham and the town. Palatka is the kind of town where you will either know everyone or at least feel as if you know them!
The major employers in the area include Georgia Pacific Paper Company and Seminole Electric Company. With easy access to the "big cities" such as Jacksonville, there are lots of folks who commute daily for their job. There are several other cities in the 80,000 population Putnam County including Crescent City to the south, Interlachen to the west, East Palatka to the ..... east, I guess.
If you don't know by now, I enjoy going "home" for a visit. I don't sell real estate in Palatka but I do know folks who do! Call me, if you need more information. And, slow down your pace a little, visit Palatka!
