You have heard it before...I am no "shrinking violet"...I say what I mean, mean what I say, and do what I say I am going to do.  The indecision on the part of the Florida Legislature regarding Property Tax Reform is par for the course.  No one wants to go out on a limb and figure out a REAL way to change our Property Tax system.

The Florida Legislature has reached an impasse on the proposed Property Tax Reform.   There are many opionions on this subject, so I am going to offer mine.  Based on the high cost of Homeowner's Insurance and Flood Insurance that Floridians have been faced with, some drastic measures are needed with respect to lowering our property taxes.

Here is my proposal for Property Tax Reform:  see my thoughts at Real Estate Sizzle...

  • I own a new Townhome in New SMyrna Beach Florida. I Live in NJ  most of the year and spend 3-4 months in Florida. I love it, but my Realestate Taxe's are going to be around 4300 on  a Townhome that cost 220,000. That is rediculous and is actually higher  percentage wise than on my home in New Jersey thats worth alsmost 4 times as much. Something is wrong. People such as myself are going to wind up moving to other locations, outside of Florida. They have to do something for all home owners.  If they dont , they will really start to lose revenue.

Even after they passed legislation in July, the taxes are still increasing on TRIM notices for many people.  Time to go back to the drawing board and try again.
