They are certainly not shouting it from the mountain tops. When I recently asked for a roll of stamps, the lady across the counter leaned across and whispered, "you may only want to get a few, the rates are going up soon".

I am thinking, why is she whispering? Let everyone know....loudly! "Email is crushing our business and we need to raise our postage rates...period".

I love my email. It will continue to become an important part of my business and obtaining future business. I have to be honest. Although I enjoy mailing flyer's and letters to FSBO's, etc. I am wondering if printing postcards would not be a better option?

What changes will you be making...if any....when the rates go up?

Go buy some of the new eterna stamps... lots of them! :)

Email has been and will be for some time a nice route to take.  I believe in nostaglia though too Robert. Mail will be back in some form, an evolution of the tangible sense that your mailman simply is/was now...Nostaglia just has a bit of catching up to do.

I've got to look up the eterna stamps David.

Jason, I saw a news program last week talking about the Post Office getting rid of the corner mailboxes. They are scrapping them by the hundreds. I think it is sad. As a kid I would love to volunteer to drop a letter off in the slot.....just wondering where it would go. These are interesting yet sad times we live. There will always be a place for the U.S. Postal Service. I am afraid it will be in a limited capacity however.

I didn't know postage rates were going up again. Crap! I do e-mail and snail mail.

They seem to be like taxes, and to be cynical, I don't find them going away either.

Not only focusing on e-mails and blogs. I'm sending .02 cents stamps to my sphere group and past clients.

Over the past 2 years, I have tried to put snail mail out of the equasion for auction notices.  If selling real estate, there is almost no snail mail.  I did just do a mailing for an equipment auction as I did not have a good email list.

I will continue to mail postcards to my sphere without worrying about the cost.  1 deal pays for it, etc., etc.

More and more people are finding things on the web.  While I am not going to stop postcards totally, we are looking for ways to impliment electronic mediums because more people are looking here vs. in the mailbox.  It has little to do with cost.

I think the postage going up is bad, but we can not get around it.  The email marketing is not that effective.  I find more and more email getting thrown out.

Bob, Again - the rates are increasing more... What is it because of the gas prices? I am going to start charging my buyers for driving them around if things don't stop going up (j/k) I do more via email, internet, and telephone(cell) than I do with direct mailings... But I am not certain how I will or if I will change anything. Just part of the cost of doing business.

Thanks for the comments.

Rich - I do agree. I have sent Auction Postcards in the past. The only difference here is the client pays for them.

Todd - Great Idea, another way to "touch" your sphere.

Phill - Your right, I probably will not change too much right now, but it will make you think twice about creating template style postcards that you can fill in a message. As far as charging buyers for showing houses, I need to find a taxi meter for my dash. That would be cool!

I'll get out my postage rate letter, include some two cent stamps and work my farm! Postage always goes up, so make the most of it. I will probably not change much of what I am doing now.
