Ann Hayden Jefferson Barracks Monument

"Victory Through Valor" is a thought provoking collection of WW II Memoirs.  I had the pleasure of attending a book signing today for this publication.  I have to say, it was awesome and inspiring.  There were many veterans in attendance.  I was happily surprised by the number of people, like me, who attended the event.

All I can say is THANK YOU!  Thank you to the three men who compiled the stories of these courageous men and women's lives during this horrible war.  And thank you to all who had the courage to tell the stories of what happened.  It was a difficult time for them.

I had the pleasure to meet about thirty of the brave souls who were in this war and even a couple of their wives.   It was an enlightening couple of hours.  Unfortunately, several of the men featured in the book have passed away.  Unfortunate for those of us who did not get to meet them in person and say,"  Thank you for your sacrifice.  Thank you for my freedom."

I am looking forward to reading the book.  It is a piece of history unlike the books they require you to read at school.

Ann, Thanks for the recommendation. I'll be sure to pick up the book.  I had a great relationship with my Dad but he was never able to talk about his experiences during WWII. When the movie "Saving Private Ryan" came out he had to leave the theater during the first five minutes.

Ann...

We are building a veteran's plaza here in Newnan and you can buy a memorial brick (the money is being used to build the memorial) inscribed with the veteran's name. We are purchasing one for my dad and one for my wife's dad!

They need to be recognized!

Hi Ann, I am glad to hear you were able to attend the event and that you got to meet those special people.

So many WWII Vets won't even talk about their experiences.  I didn't know about my Father's until shortly before he passed away.  He would not talk about it. He was in the Pacific Corridor.  There are only a few men living that were on his ship. I have a wonderful certificate, framed now - for his service.

Hi Ann I wanted to visit and say thanks for commenting on my post.  This is a beautiful post to commemorate those few who are left.  One of my clients was a WWII vet, and the wonderful, humble, man.  I know several WWII and come to think of it ...they all  have that quality...Humility along with appreciation for being recognized as a soldier. They all stand with the quiet strength of knowing what we will never know. thank you again.  I too will buy the book.

Yes. most did not want to share all of the experience.  It was not a good situation.

I am happy your father had an opportunity to get it off his chest.

Congrats on his service!

Hi Ann,

Thank you so much for sharing this. These men (and women too) are my true heroes. Because of their selfless commitments and valor we have the freedoms we enjoy today. The WWII Memorial in D.C. is an amazing place, we cannot ever forget their sacrifices and it's up to us to keep it alive. Thank you for doing so.

Both my parents are WWII vets, my dad, God rest his soul, was a Med Tech in the US Army stationed in Japan and mom was a Wave out of Norfolk, VA.  When I see your post I think how double-ly blessed I am and that the sacrafices a generation made endures today and for generations to come.  We are so blessed because of those who continue to protect our freedom.

Hi Ann,

Our WWII Vets saved us from living in a remarkably different world.  As they are passing on, the responsibility falls to us to carry the accurate memories and lessons of those times.

I will buy and read that book.  My uncles were WWII vets - honoring their service is a responsibility I take seriously.

Take care,     Laurie

What would the world be like without that generation. I am afraid we are forgetful for their service and about to find out the answer. There can never be enough thank you's said of how grateful we are to them.
