I received an email the other day from a friend of mine who is a loan originator also. She was very frustrated because of a couple dealings with real estate agents in the last several weeks and wanted A) Advice  B) To vent  C) All of the above. Being a smart guy (it took me a while to learn), I provided only B. Sometimes they really don’t want the advice, just to vent. That however is a topic for another day.

To summarize, she is tired of Realtors wanting to control every aspect of the transaction, up to and including checking up on the loan process every other day. While I am choosing my words carefully here, she seems to think they are overbearing, egotistical, obnoxious, etc. Certainly she has not had a positive experience with these agents in particular. In one particular case, the agent set up a closing date that was only a couple weeks away; before my friend even had the signed purchase agreement. There was almost no way this could close in that amount of time given the average turn-around from the lenders. This even assumes that the lender finds NO issues (fat chance) and that the entire package is approved right away. She even told my friend that her (the agent’s) preferred LO could close the loan in two weeks.

She even felt that the agent was trying to steal her client to give to another LO. What do you do? Even if this was someone I didn’t know, I would be concerned that this would not be a very positive experience for anyone involved.

Although I didn’t say anything at the time, here are my thoughts…..

Ssott~  I am a Realtor and can not understand those kind of reactions from the agent.  I beleive everyone needs to work together to make it all fall in to place!

Scott,

I read the rest of your story and agree 100%. Sounds like your friend may not do all the things that you do to keep the line of communication with the Realtors involved. I agree with you on the ABA's. I will not have one and have turned down several. All I want from my Title Company and LO's is good service and good communication and get the deal closed. Thanks for the post!

Regards,

Thanks for the comments. I have always believed that this business is about building relationships, not enemies.

The people that are still in this business are going to rise to the top when things improve economically. Now is the time to work together to cement those relationships so that when that time arrives, all the pieces are in place.

Best of luck to all of you.

Hi Scott, The agent needs to Read High Trust Selling.  I am probably one of those overbearing agents with my lender but we do work well together and most of the time if I call for an update it is just to make sure that there is nothing that I need to do.  At any rate, we are all in this together and need to be able to rely on each other.

On a side note, I used to own a Pizza King in Valpo and remember having a customer by the name of Swinford????

Jeff,

I agree with reading High Trust Selling. I think the idea is that a few of the agents she has not worked with before, so there is no preexisting relationship. She seems to think that since a few of the agents have so few deals that they are scheduling closings to correspond with the dates of their car payments. Who knows.....

I have only been in Valpo area for about 4 years, but I'm all about pizza. Probably no relation to me.

Chris,

I am learning from some of the best. Do share.....

Scott:

It seems like the RE agent is scared and afraid of letting anyone help. Looks like a sign of the times
