So, I was never on MySpace... I have been on LinkedIn for about 6 months... Just joined FaceBook about 3 months ago, and am finally getting in gear with ActiveRain... There are such subtle nuances with each of these social/professional networking sites.

I have been able to make numerous business connections on LinkedIn, and even give and received recommendations. The interesting thing is that I have found people from various industries and really made great connections with some! I have been able to refer and introduce people that can work together.

FaceBook has been instrumental with putting me back in touch with old acquaintances and high school friends. Some of which I had lost touch with for over 17 years! It's like a virtual high school reunion! I can see where FaceBook would have it's merits for professional networking as well, but I would be inclined to set up a separate profile for personal and professional use.

Then there is ActiveRain... a fabulous networking site for an industry-specific connection such as real estate. I am not sure if there is anything like ActiveRain out there for people who are less fortunate than us to be in another industry....

I am hearing a lot about Twitter lately and wonder if I need to sign-up there... could I really juggle the four in my life and still manage to get my REAL work done? Are there other resources out there that I am missing that are absolute necessities for my industry?

There are way too many offerings out there in cyberspace. I've been using many of them and often get bombarded with e-mail from many, FaceBook, especially. The tools are very useful and can generate business.

I'm in a whirl wind right now... so many FUN things to do, so little time to do it! Try ziggs.com - VERY interesting what they offer! (and also free!)

Hi Melissa - You can easily incorporate Twitter into your online presence. Using a tool such as Twhirl, you can have Twitter running in the background while you're working in other places online. See the Twitter group on ActiveRain for a lot of helpful posts.

Hi Melissa;

There are many free websites that we all could use and promote our selves.

Thank you all, for your insight! I am feeling a bit overwhelmed... but nothing that some time at home at a leisurely pace on the net won't cure! By Monday morning, I'll be all a-Twitter and Twhirl-ing around here! Good evening to all!

Melissa, that is a very good point...juggling all these many social networking sites is a challenge while still being able to get the work done!

Melissa,

I am just learning how to juggle all of the social networking sites myself.  You see like an old had at this compared to me.  I just joined, linked in, facebook, plaxo, myspace and activerain all within the last month --- wow!  never knew there was such a vast world of networking out there.  So much to learn.

I am wanting to also learn about flash video if you know anything it and would also love to know how you were able to get your signature to appear at the bottom of your blog?

Did the picture you are usig for your background come from the ceiling of the Belagio in Las Vegas?  it is so cool.

Vickie,

Yes, I did! I love the celing in there -- the Murano Glass is gorgeous! Also, I followed the advice of many who I asked about the signature and went to mylivesignature.com!
