So, I was never on MySpace... I have been on LinkedIn for about 6 months... Just joined FaceBook about 3 months ago, and am finally getting in gear with ActiveRain... There are such subtle nuances with each of these social/professional networking sites.
I have been able to make numerous business connections on LinkedIn, and even give and received recommendations. The interesting thing is that I have found people from various industries and really made great connections with some! I have been able to refer and introduce people that can work together.
FaceBook has been instrumental with putting me back in touch with old acquaintances and high school friends. Some of which I had lost touch with for over 17 years! It's like a virtual high school reunion! I can see where FaceBook would have it's merits for professional networking as well, but I would be inclined to set up a separate profile for personal and professional use.
Then there is ActiveRain... a fabulous networking site for an industry-specific connection such as real estate. I am not sure if there is anything like ActiveRain out there for people who are less fortunate than us to be in another industry....
I am hearing a lot about Twitter lately and wonder if I need to sign-up there... could I really juggle the four in my life and still manage to get my REAL work done? Are there other resources out there that I am missing that are absolute necessities for my industry?
There are way too many offerings out there in cyberspace. I've been using many of them and often get bombarded with e-mail from many, FaceBook, especially. The tools are very useful and can generate business.
