From ActiveRain Blog Post To #2 In Google Results In Less Than 2 Hours

I just wrote a blog post today about the reason for not abbreviating words in your blog posts: How Saving a Second or Two Typing Can Cost You in Search Engine Placement

When I wrote that post I had other reasons in mind as well...

Besides the content I wanted to share about abbreviations and web placement, I was running a little experiment for a Blogging Class I am teaching tomorrow at my local Keller Williams Real Estate office.

I wanted to show the importance of writing good keyword relevant content, and how it can boost your web presence in a short time. My hope was that it would show up by the following day, so I could make my point in time for class. I was pleasantly surprised to see my Google Alert for "Real Estate" "Transaction Coordinator" go off in less than 2 hours with my latest blog post listed. I then went to Google and put in the term "Utah Real Estate Transaction Coordinator" and was even more pleased when I saw my still infant post at #2 in the rankings already, and even better was that #1 still belonged to my wife's ActiveRain profile, and #7 belonged to our main website; so our Transaction Coordination Business was well covered in the results.

and as if to underscore my abbreviation blog, the term that showed up was an example I gave in my first post to show how the full search term nets search engine results, but the abbreviated version of those same keywords does not; and that full keyword string is what placed in less than 2 hours!!! It doesn't get any better than that!

Showing agents the power of blogging and the power of The Rain in class tomorrow just got a little easier!!!

Jason - good work! Keywords are so important. I am doing a webinar on October 7th on blogs- I have posted a blog on ActiveRain on the subject. This is geared more to newbies in the blog arena, however, it may be of benefit to your target market.

Excellent. This is one great attribute to AR. I have been using this with my sellers and it blows their mind how well it works. So to add to your blog, tell us; but, also, tell your sellers when you have blogged about their home or community and have them Google the community or street name.

Sometimes I will just send out an email and say "google golf vista austin" with no other comment and see the reponse over the google ranking is wonderful.......

I wonder if the reason it showed up so high is more due to the long tail aspects of the key words you were looking for. Basically that fewer people would be looking for those words and few people have written stuff using those words. It does work to get highly ranked for those words but I think the reason it was so successful was due to its rareness. If you title a post real estate it would probably be very hard to rank high or anywhere in the top hundred thousand pages.

Eau - Good point. I'm sure that has something to do with the speed to which it showed up. However I am not sure of how quickly I have placed in the past (never tracked it before today), but I have shown up on the front page for other keywords in past blogs that are much higher in competition than the keyword string listed above.

I also know that other ActiveRainers are having the same success with very sought after keywords for example I know Laurie Manny is just one example of an ActiveRainer that regularly gets top placement above some of the biggest websites in the country for some of the most sought after Long Beach California keywords with her ActiveRain blog posts. (was just reading about her today on another AR post that referred to this very aspect of her blog)

I also don't think anyone would search the term "Real Estate" and expect to get any kind of local or specific relevant results, so I guess that is why we use more "Long Tail" keyword strings. So we get more qualified people finding our sites that are looking for the SPECIFIC help or services (keywords) that we are placing on. That way we end up with better qualified prospects.

I still don't doubt the power of ActiveRain (wouldn't want to piss off the Placement Gods), but I will try harder next time to make a better point with a more difficult keyword string :)
