I was reading Sarah Cooper's article today, WARNING: THINK Before You Begin A Blog and she always gets me thinking.
Today she was talking about how "blogging" - for me, it's writing articles about real estate and what's happening in my community and my life can really help you connect with potential clients, current friends and professionals, but it also has some pitfalls.
Sarah reminds me that you may not want to start "writing" if you're not committed to continuing it. Think about how it may reflect on you and the message it may send when we start something and then quit it. The interesting thing I've learned about "the internet" is that once your words are captured they will take on a life of their own and be found online long after we write them.
My wise friend, Maggie Dokic, in her article, Be Careful with those Localism Comments! also reminds us that "how we say things" is as important as what we say because people will be judging you, often before they meet you by what you've written.
I found myself reflecting on past resolutions - Have you ever made a New Years Resolution? Did you keep it?
In years past I have made resolutions to join a make time to workout - which those who know me know how I struggle with making this time for myself. I've had years when I've started, had work out buddies, seen great results - and then over time gotten "busy" and ultimately hit that point where to keep it up took a personal "commitment" - over this last year I have come to appreciate the value of blocking time out to take care of myself. Those who personally know me, know I've lost 75 pounds this past year.
I realize the long term benefits - those we only see after months of sweat and hard work and actually blocking out time to make it happen. Now I've also started blocking out time to share my thoughts with my "online friends, professional peers and future clients " - thanks to those of you who continue to encourage me as I hit my groove and grow as a writer.

You made a great addition to this chorus of thoughts about real estate and life. It is always a good reminder to keep your great thoughts about blogging forefront on your mind. I think it was such a good idea that I am typing a reminder to myself and tacking it on the computer frame as a reminder. I have always been a positive type that criticizes by creation and no matter how tempted would never put anyone down or their opinions in a public forum. I don't do it much in private either. " Even the dull and the ignorant have their stories", taken from a famous writing that I love. I hope to always to be able to express myself in uplifting ways that might interest others but it is still a great idea to temper things with the guidelines you remind us about. Thank you that! We all lose ourselves sometimes thinking that what we have to offer is so interesting to others. Thanks Again.
