I am so proud of myself that I just had to share.

It started as a simple request.  Hey Katie, we are planning our class reunion.  We wanted to get your input because you have such good ideas.

Gave them my ideas.....

Next email.......Katie you are so good at this.  Blah! Blah! Blah!

We communicate a few times them it comes.  Listen Katie we were talking and you are so well connected still in Farmville and so good at planning events. We were hoping that you be our local point of contact for the reunion.

I waited about two days.  Could I dare do it?

I pulled out the word that I am just learning to use:

NO!

Here is my response:  Thanks for my vote of confidence. With a growing business and three children, I do not think that I would be able to give the reunion the commitment that it deserves!

It felt so good.

I am so appreciative for my business.  It has been an outlet that has enabled me to grow as a person.  It has taken me almost five years to learn that it is okay to turn down a listing.........AND A CLASS REUNION JOB!  I will for once just go and enjoy myself.

10 Comments on A New Word to My Vocabulary

Boy is that ever so true.   I am working on that same word myself.  I practice it every day and soon it might just come out.

It is so hard.  When it comes to listings, I have used the star power line: I would rather let you go today than let you down tommorow!

I have to learn how to say that word more often too. Good for youKatie. I hope you enjoy the reunion as a guest.

Thanks Ellie!  I will.......if they have one!  If they don't, I will not feel guilty in the least.

Hey lady, you are awesome!  SO proud of you!  It is so hard to say no, I struggle w/ it very much.  I love getting everbody's approval and worry that I let people down.  I am working hard to change that!

well I have also just satrted using this word... at times it becomes really difficult to let it out of my mouth... but we all hve to do it... if we want to focus on what really matters and is important for us... and as for a class reunion party... saying a NO is a prettyl daring thing to do...

Carol,

Thanks!  That is exactly what it felt like empowering!

Brooke, I struggle with it too.  Thanks for the vote of confidence.  When I know that I need to say no, I picture my children being upset.  That is the time I loose. I will always put a certain number of hours into work.  What is left is divided bwtween my social activities and the kids.

Webdrops, Thanks for commenting. I just looked at both the other girls that were heading it up.  One is single and lives onehour away.  Her parents still live here.  The other has a one year old. She lives about the same distance away. Her parents live her too.

THey obviously thought they could deligate to me.  They learned otherwise!
