mccain/palin1I spent quite a few hours working for John McCain and Sarah Palin today. It is no secret that McCain was not my first choice for the top of the Republican ticket, but his choice of Sarah Palin really fired me up as I think that there is now a wonderful team in place to deliver what this country needs.

And so not being one to simply talk the talk, today I walked the walk and went to the campaign headquarters here in Orlando and volunteered my time - although I was paid in Pizza when lunch time rolled around which is never a bad thing!

I was really pleasantly surprised at the response I was receiving over the phone as I was calling people who are not registered Republicans but who have stated in the past that they would vote that way - and then didn't vote at all. My job was to try and convince them to accept an absentee ballot and vote by mail.

My first question was how they intended to vote in November and of the 200+ phone calls I made today I spoke to just one undecided. Almost without exception I was told that Sarah Palin had them believing again and that the key issue for them at the election was national security.

My fellow volunteers were in large part university students, but there were a couple of my contemporaries and two retired people as well.

The other major thing to report is that the Orlando office has run out of Mccain/Palin yard signs and stickers. At least 50 people came into the office with probably another 50 calling in all looking for signs. For those interested, they should be in by the middle of next week.

So there you have it. It was time well spent and I was pleased to do it. I think it is important to work to try and chieve the result you are looking for and not just simply pay it lip service. Some of you will be unable to do so, but those who do have the time, I strongly recommend that you get involved for your candidate.

They are going to get my vote. I am extremely impressed with Palin.

I'm a woman and shoud be impressed by her - but i see her as hard, snarly, sarcastic, bullying, in the fast lane to fame and fury...........smart?  no doubt..........but don't be fooled.......watch and see......you might be surprised.

Sarah Palin brings a whole new demographic and dynamic to the Republican ticket. It will be a lot of fun getting to know her over the next few months.

Simon,

Good to hear that you are getting involved in the process, we need to get more involved and help be part of the system.

Take care!

Raylene - me too. Extremely impressed.

Anon - nice! Attack without facts and don't put your name to it!

John - I really think they are going to win.

Empire - it's funny I spoke to a good friend who was surprised that I was going to do it. But yes - involving yourself in the process is a wonderful thing.

09/06/2008 10:33 PM by Simon Conway (Picket Fence Realty)

That's great that you did this.  Also, great thast the response from our youth was so positive.

Simon, Nice to hear you are getting involved in this election. Nothing like rolling up your sleeves and diving in. You're such a wonderful addition to this great country. Keep up the good work !!!!

I'll put my name on this one. How many women are going to vote for a pro-life, rifle toting gal? I'll admit, she is a much better speaker than McCain but talk about experience? How many people does she govern in Alaska? Less than live in the Greater Tucson area...I'm a registered republican, but I can't say this was the choice I would have made. Could she be any further from the middle? Since when has McCain been the far, far right wing? Either way, I don't think they can do any worse than Bush...

09/06/2008 11:05 PM by Patrick Randles (Sunstreet Mortgage)

Thanks Larry

June - she's real America - that's what has the Dems scared

NJ - Your endorsement means more to me than any other. :)

Patrick - please let's not do the experience thing! The top of the other ticket has LESS experience than she does.

09/06/2008 11:12 PM by Simon Conway (Picket Fence Realty)

Good for you! I think that is awesome. I wished I had more time but I do donate money which should help some. I'm impressed you did that!

09/06/2008 11:13 PM by LaNita Cates (REMAX of Joliet)

Patrick - I'm a woman and proudly carry my FOID card as I do hunt and have since a little girl. I'm also pro-choice. This woman will vote for her and I know many, many that will.

09/06/2008 11:15 PM by LaNita Cates (REMAX of Joliet)

I am pretty impressed with her.  She certainly has the stuff to run the country... and if McCain is able to pull off the election, she'll have the time to hone that.

09/06/2008 11:26 PM by Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

LaNita - well said. You are not the only pro-choice woman I know who will vote for her.

Lane - she is the right stuff for sure.

GOOD for you Simon, I've volunteered for a couple of elections....I wasn't too keen on McCain either but I'm really excited now that he's chosen Sarah as his running mate.  I just may go down to the McCain-Palin headquarters and volunteer too.

09/07/2008 12:14 AM by Mary Warren (Referring Agent)

Simon - Kudos to you for getting involved in the campaign.  I was also energized by this selection, as McCain was not my favorite from the field of candidates originally.  My wife, who rarely gets interested in politics other than a couple of key issues, is truly excited about Sarah Palin after watching her incredible speech the other night.

Simon- My time to volunteer is delayed until I get my voice back. I was all ready to go on Thursday and then bam, no voice! As soon as I get better you bet your biffy I will be there and get my yard sign while I am at it. I have not had a yard sign since Reagan. I am so excited about Sarah Palin.

09/07/2008 02:32 AM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Simon ~ I also want to volunteer for the McCain / Palin ticket. Thanks for the good example.

09/07/2008 09:58 AM by Nicholas Goglucci, CRS ~ CLHMS, e-PRO ~ Re/Max Professional in South Florida (RE/Max In Motion, Inc.)

Simon - I have spent several years as a member of the local county Republican Executive Committee.  You may want to check whether your precinct has a committeeman.  In Florida you only need to attend a few meetings to go on the committee if there is a vacancy for your location.

And yes I will be volunteering for phone bank work during the next few months.

09/07/2008 10:29 AM by Ted Baker (Carmody and Associates LLC)

Simon, Thank You for volunteering!!!  Now make sure they order a lot more yard signs!

09/07/2008 01:33 PM by Lisa Friedman Central New Jersey Real Estate (Pinnacle Realtors)

Simon, Awwwwwwwww..........*s* thanks, it means a lot to me that you are so fired up about this election. Like a kid that is at the candy store for the very first time!!! *lol* YOU GO MY FRIEND. ;-)

Simon.

Thanks for volunteering to help elect the next president and vice president of the United States. I am excited about our ticket now!

Good for you.  We all need to support the conservative side.  I'm not a big McCain fan either, but compared Obama ... I like McCain.

Simon, good for you.  You are in one of those states where we really need you to be helping.  My sister is in Colorado and is considering helping also.  I hope all of those swing states get lots of volunteers like you.  Sarah has fired up the base; hasn't she.

09/07/2008 11:02 PM by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro ABR (Results Realty)

Simon,

I am glad that you volunteered. My wife and I do some type of volunteer work for a candidate each election time. You reminded me that it is time to go volunteer some time and work again this year.

09/08/2008 08:32 AM by Kevin Robinson (Crownline Home Builders)

Kudos to you for getting involved in the process. The selection of Sarah Palin has really energized the Democratic base.

09/08/2008 12:55 PM by Janice

We republicans thank you for your effort Simon, and the republican ticket is Strong with Palin.  Whether we individually like her or not, the GOP is finally getting almost equal air time, even on liberal TV stations.  The message is getting out there and much more diversely then it would have with McCain and another nondescript old guard republican.

09/08/2008 12:55 PM by Jon Michael (DeGeorge Realty LLC)

Good for you.  The McCain-Palin ticket has my vote.  She is terrific and very qualified for the job.

09/08/2008 01:17 PM by Rosalinda Morgan, "The Rose Lady", Brookville NY Real Estate Professional (Century 21-Laffey Associates, Licensed Associate Broker)

Simon, what a marvelous idea to volunteer! I am going to take your lead and just do that.  Like you, until Governor Palin hit the ticket, I was not that excited, but now I am in all the way!   (I was actually for Huckabee)
