Sarah Palin, the vice presidential nominee for the Republican Party, is a mother of five. She's a wife of over 20 years, and on the side, she's Governor of Alaska. I say that tongue in cheek. During the recent media attacks on this impressive candidate, one of the big items flaunted by the press was her family. How could she possibly have time to fulfill the obligations of the Vice President when she has kids?
Would that question have been asked about a man? Would it have even been asked if it was someone from the party that the media favored?
It amazes me that the liberals who fought for women's rights and women's equality now question a woman's place in the White House. It seems that there is a serious double standard being flaunted by the media.
I think the ideal situation in raising kids is to have both parents at home. That doesn't work too well, since most of us have to earn a living. Sometimes one parent can stay home with the kids, and traditionally that parent is more often the mother. That's good too (whichever parent it is), but in our world of dual incomes and increased cost of living, both parents often have to work. Most children raised in these families turn out perfectly fine.
By the way - remember, Palin has a husband. Don't you think he'll be taking care of a lot of the parenting? I would bet that he's quite competent (though the media had to point out how terrible he is by having a TWENTY TWO year old DUI arrest - gasp).
Palin has done quite well as a Mayor and a Governor with her family. I have no doubt she will be an excellent Vice President. Those kids will have a ball running around the VP mansion!
