After a brief run-in with Hanna last night and this morning, she is off to visit the Carolinas. She didn't reveal any of her bluster as she passed by, but she added to our already impressive rain total amounts from Fay and Gustav.

This is one rainy season that is definitely living up to its name. In fact, Lake Okeechobee, the largest fresh water lake in the eastern US outside of Lake Michigan, is (was) up over 5 feet from a year ago and over 3 feet since the rains began. It is now being lowered as more rain continues to pour in from its drainage basin.

Battenb=n down for a wet weekend in the Carolinas and hopefully you won't see much wind. Take care y'all.

Steve I hope you get your wish of no winds. The winds have created a big mess in my immediate area. Good Luck.

It ain't over Steve... prepare for Ike!!!

Steve,

Thanks for the post. It was said last year, that hurricanes will come sooner, stronger and much more frequently. This season seems to be a testament to the prediction.

I just left the Charleston area on Tuesday, hopefully the weather will spare the region and my family.

The activity seems similar to the 2005 season. With just under three months to go, hopefully it won't continue on the same pace. For everyone in the Carolinas - be safe!

Hope that these hurricanes lose their gusto as they come your way.  Stay safe my friend.

Ann,

The hurricane season runs from June 1 - November 30. Hardly anything happens until late August, and September 10th is the peak of activity.

Frank,

It looks like we may do OK. I'm concerned about your area though with Ike.

Earl,

It surely ain't over, but it's beginning to look like Ike has other plans.

William,

I saw the same information. Don't know if that's right or not. Charleston is getting rain now, and Hanna is going all the way up to Boston.

John,

There are a few similarities to the 2005 season, but many fewer storms.

Joan,

Thanks so much for your good wishes. Right now, we're looking pretty good. That's subject to change, and I don't know who else might be affected.

i can't believe how many tornadoes and hurricanes happen down your way - we've been so fortunate up here so far...

Liz,

They make the news and I think it sounds like there are more than there are. I remember frombefore I moved to Florida it felt the same way to me. Thanks.

Steve,

We are finally out of the grasp of the remnants of Gustav.  Fortunately, we only had rain, no tornadoes....

Steve:  We've got Hanna right now.  Rainy and dark.  Perfect weather to organize my desk and get some of that boring old paperwork done!

Willing to report we were spared.

Stay safe for Ike.

I'm certainly glad of that for you. Maybe you'll remain in the clear. That would be good. :)

I hope you got your office cleaned and caught up on your paperwork - and that you had time for some blogging.

Steve, thank you for your comment on my post earlier today. Those of us along the coasts have a healthy respect for dear old Mother Nature. We will keep thinking positive thoughts and hoping that Ike will just blow itself out before harming anyone else.

Great AR site!

Rand,

Thanks. Appreciate your input. It looks like Ike is headed south for now, but we all know how changeable these storms are. Keep safe, and keep working.

Ann,

Good point. With all of the rain we've all had recently I imagine we're feeling kinda soggy. AR is a better type of precipitation for now.
