I wrote yesterday about the vagaries of hurricanes and this one is no different. The course changed throughout the day and now the storm is making landfall south of us. Actually, this is not a good thing, as the northeast quadrant of a tropical storm or hurricane is the most dangerous, as it has more tornadic activity. We are under a tornado watch now here on Topsail Island. Lots of wind and rain are expected. I have cleared our decks and balconies of anything that could become a missile or a cannonball, as Kathy says. Looking forward to walking the beach tomorrow, always find some interesting things.

Hope it blows past without a lot of damage.  We have property on the Outer Banks of NC...not sure what to expect!  Here are good thoughts for everyone in the path of this storm.

we just got home from n.c. we rented "surfs up" for the week but left friday after noon because of hurricane threats. we wondered if the rental home was o.k because we're going to be booking for it next year. thank you charlene eckels . we had a wonderful time there. thank you.

Charlene, storm damage was minimal. A few downed power lines, snapped palms, etc. We are back up and running so don't see any reason why you couldn't be right back on the island next year! We lost some screen on one of our porches, some limbs but we fared very well. Not even a lot of rain.

Hey!  Love this blog.  We have a place where Barnicle Bill's used to be.  Wondering if you know of any damage around that area.

Thanks for the information!

Sherry and Barbara,

Glad you like the blog! Please subscribe and tell your friends! :)

Really, there is no damage that anyone could consider any more than minimal. We haven't had an opportunity to drive the island yet but check back here and we will be updating throughout the day. One of our agents lives on Seashore Drive, second row and while his neighbors (living in an older condo complex) had some siding go missing along with a few shingles, that was the extent of it. Bob also said that the beach looked great, steps down to the sand were just where they were supposed to be and all appeared to be present and accounted for as far as he could see.
