Yesterday I signed up for Skype. This is a program that allows you to call from computer to computer from free. All you need to do is download their program and have speakers & a microphone which most laptops & some desktops already have installed.
It works similar to some of the other messenger programs like AIM, Yahoo Messenger, & MSN Messenger. The big advantage I see is how you can talk through your computer just as if you were on the phone. If you have a webcam, you can also do video a video conference with someone.
Last night I tried out the calling & video features by talking to my brother-in-law who currently is in Berkeley, CA. We were able to view each other and talk as if we were sitting across the table from each other.
So, how can we use skype for real estate? I am glad you asked! In my area of the US, most of my sellers & buyers are not local. This means that I can communicate with them for unlimited amount of time without it costing any money. For me it is no big deal because I have an unlimited minutes program with my phone. However not all my clients have that and they do not want to pay a long distance fee. So, they can set up an account and we can discuss things through our computers for free.
For only $2.95 a month you can add unlimited calls to landlines & cell phones anywhere in the US & Canada. For $9.95 you can add to anywhere in the world. This is definitely much cheaper than digital phone. If you use firefox on your computer, you can also install an add-on that will allow you to click on any number and dial directly from your computer.
So, if you are already using Skype, look me up!
Gee, thanks, Jer... one more thing on my tech to-do list. :)
