Don't know why I haven't done this in so long, but I have to say that time alone is a sacred kind of thing. Especially when you're surrounded by such beauty and peacefulness.

The Walking Trail is about 2 miles long, but there are shorter loops to it.

The Nature Center offers many exhibits for both young and old alike.

The Monarch Butterfly Exhibit is always pretty awesome. I am partial to butterflies.

The Resort itself has both indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzis, game area with racquetball, pool table, etc. Also a top notch work out area. Terrific views from the restaurant which serves local perch and walleye. Great bar with a nautical theme and limited menu. Meeting rooms for businesses and banquest rooms for weddings.

This weekend they're having a sunrise wedding at 7:30am! I might sneak back for some mimosas!

The Beach at Maumee Bay sports an inland lake with beach, lakeside waterslide, Lake Erie beach, outdoor ampitheatre for weekend concerts, and much more.

The Resort also has a fantastic marina right on Lake Erie. Call the resort for GPS coordinates to enter the marina. From what I remember you head towards the marina when you reach the buoy before Toledo Harbor Lighthouse. Then line up the tower closest to the Resort with that buoy and follow it in. But don't quote me on that. I'll get better directions and update later.

During the summertime they have planned activities for the kids. They also rent cabins and the state park is nice if you're a camper.

Hope you enjoyed my photos and commentary.

One thing I would note, though, is that cellphones and wireless devices have limited capabilities. You can purchase wireless computer connection for 9.99 a day or 19.99 for 3 days, but is sporadic at best.

While I was there they were redecorating the guest rooms, including new mattresses.

Can't wait until my NEXT TIME ALONE!!!

9 Comments on Recharging my batteries at Maumee Bay Resort and State Park

Dee,

You've just been blogging up a storm here this week!  I'm not stalking you, just noticed that you had an appreciable spike in points and I was just looking around... Nancy better watch out!!

09/05/2008 03:53 PM by Rick Turner (RE/MAX Executives)

Rick, I mean Stalker Boy - Don't worry. I figured you would notice I was accumulating points. I have really been motivated since we now have these outside blogs. Plus it's a way to relax, but still work. I love to write and I have a slightly different perspective of things at times (can you say sarcastic wit?)

Stop by any time. I'll return the favor and go say hello to your market reports. They're great!

Dee again

Great pictures. I am from Ohio and I can totally recognize the sky and colors! Sounds crazy but I could pick a picture of Ohio out of a hundred. I am sure you know what I mean.  But, great localism post!

Lisa - I worried that it was too long, but I just couldn't leave out some of those pics! Thanks for dropping by.

Terrie - You are so right. Ohio gets a bum rap, but those of us who know, well, KNOW. We are so blessed to live so close to so many great areas. The Great lakes are an under-appreciated area for sure.

Plus Ohio in genral has so much tooffer. Amish Country, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ohio River in Cincinnati, OSU, 8 presidents from Ohio, birthplace of aviation, plus much, much more.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dee, I lived in Maumee and Waterville Ohio for about a year when I was eleven. The title of your post caught my eye. I forgot how beautiful it was in the spring and summer! Most of my young memories are walking to school in snow storms :-)~

Lara - Oh how I remember walking to the bus stop during snow storms! The hairs in my nose would freeze with little tiny icicles. GROSS!

You are right, though that spring is absolutely lovely and summer can bem depending on humidity.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dee, I do not miss the little snow icicles in my nose! But your blog made me remember sailing with my dad on a nearby lake. Maybe it was the one in your pictures. I'll ask him next time we talk.

We moved to Ohio from Canada, so the winters were actually an improvement. We moved from Ohio to San Juan, Puerto Rico during a blizzard on New Years Eve. I thought I was dreaming :-)

Lara - Wow, what a difference between blizzardy Ohio and balmy Puerto Rico!
