The majority of the time when I am working on a deal with another agent, I am on the same wavelength as them. Or at least there is a mutual respect between the two of us. I know they are there to represent their clients, and I need to represent mine. Simple as that. Every now and again you have to deal with a fellow agent who does not have that understanding/mutual respect. Why? I do not know.
I have been in the business for 20+ years, and am a well known Realtor in the area. I have a good reputation, as being an honest, reputable Realtor who is fair.
It frustrates me when I have to deal with fellow agents who are demanding and down right rude. We are both here for a common goal, to sell the house and make our clients happy. Most of the time that happens through negotiations, and compromise. This helps ensure that a deal will go smoothly. I don't need to be aggravated every time I talk to the fellow agent.
Bottom line: We are all in this together. Lets work together to make it happen! Then we all win.
You also need to realize that if you are rude or unprofessional with another agent your reputation could be harmed. I have felt it necessary to have a reputation with other Realtors. After all they are the ones who are going to show and hopefully sell your listings.
Carol,
Great post and so true. I really believe what goes around comes around. Those agents that have bad attitudes now or are disrespectful will either not be in the business in the next year or two or it will simply come back to them in that they will not get residual business or in the future (like it was in the old days) when you have multiple offers on your listings, and one of the deals is from one of those agents.... LOL, you know where I am going.
Relationships among realtors are key for continued success for all of us. The ones that do not understand that are missing the big picture and hurting themselves.
I understand that we have bad days sometimes. I have had testy converstations with other co-op realtors here and there and if I think I crossed the line, I have called back to apologize indicating that I have had a bad day. It takes guts to make that call but I have been glad in the past when I did.
