I was reading this blog this morning (Check it out to understand my train of thought) . Then because of my recent concern regarding a localism post, I wondered...If a subject is considered "Tabu" at work--should it be considered "Tabu" if you are blogging in a work capacity? Should you discuss with your broker, topics that he or she considers tabu when the company name is attached?

You may be fortunate to have an "anything goes" blogging license with your broker, but if you haven't checked, you may want to. When you blog, and your company's name is attached...are you sure that you are not alienating potential prospects?

Maybe there is more "ME" license in posting to Members Only, rather than localism. But, you may want to consider that you are "courting" the cooperation of others in our industry as well. Before you post, especially before you put someone, or something down--you may want to ask a buddy  to  give it a "look over".

My position--unless you only want to attract buyers and sellers who have the same political beliefs that you do--perhaps you should post political beliefs to a non business oriented website.

Posting political views can serve the purpose of "pre-screening for compatibility:-)" .

Suzi- This short Post is packed full of wisdom!  I'm impressed and hadn't thought of that asking your Broker if there are any tabu subjects.  Especially with their name attached.

Kathy, Thank you. Thinking as a Broker, I know I have read some posts that are just downright mean, and/or ethnocentric without regard to the impact a blog may have. It isn't just those who comment who are reading us:-). For instance, as a Broker, do you want blogs attached to you that are--poorly written with misspelled words? What about politics and religion? What about "attitudes"? Its so easy to read browse and go on. For every view, there is a thought. We may never know by comments, whether or not a blog has effected our businesses.

PS: I have touched on the issue below in another blog that received little attention. You did a much better job.

Time Management and Blogging.....I don't want to wait till 6 to share a laugh

Daniel, you would not be a concern to me. Your posts are about property and business. Period. No politics, not cutting the competition. By the way, you have presented your area and properties so well--I want to go there.

Hi Suzi

If you're marketing property or giving advice your broker needs to be aware of your activity the same as your ads and your web site.

Good luck and success

I must say you are very insightful and I have not thought about some of these issues. I will from now on. Good post and thought provoking.

LL, Thank you for your well wishes, may I say--"Right Back at you." I am also an inspirational quote person. A hobby that developed me (I meant that the way I said it:-) is taking photos of signs along life's route... I believe it shows the spirit of America that the Obama Team and the McCain Team are trying to reach.

This was my favorite Poster at my daughter's high school open house.

TT, I also thank you. I doubt that you would have any challenges with company image. One reason I work alone:-) I insist on freedom of blogging and would not want to restrict anyone else. I guess if I ever decided to develop a team--Blogging would be in the agreement, only positive and uplifting. ..."If you feel the need to cut someone down do it with a byline and at a non business oriented web site.

Very good point.  If I were the broker in charge, I would probably want to add something in my policy manual about blog postings.

Are you excited? If you found me, you are most likely thinking of moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I remember the exictement, anticipation and even misgivings in relocating. Therefore, I try to convey "slice of life" moments with photos I upload. My area of focus is with East Harrison County, and Hancock County,MS:
