ike windsSo Tropical Storm Hanna can not get her act together and she looks like she'll be a big ole Thunderstorm, and it will help with the drought...

But IKE - shown to the left - has winds at 145 mile an hour... That's going to be BIG...  and with Hanna sitting still, I called my mom and asked her what she thinks is going to happen.

My mom grew up in Wilmington, NC, and was on Wrightsville Beach during Hazel.  She and my dad are suppose to be at Wrightsville next week.  I knew she had been looking at the NOAA site to see the forecast... When I asked her what she thought...

Mom said, "EAT THE ICE CREAM! EAT ALL OF IT!"

When storms of any kind come to our area - mom always reminds me that melting Ice Cream is the WORST thing!hurricane ike

When you look at the picture to the right, the purple mass with the white dot is Hurricane Ike.  I know that the news media is saying it could drift into the gulf... but I'm with mom.

I'm eating out of the freezer for the next few days - and that Ice Cream is going to be GONE!

I'm also:

checking for batteries, buying extra beer, getting some honey (jelly has to be refridgerated), cleaning out the coolers, freezing gallon containers for ice, checking the propane for the gas grill, and getting everything out of the yard...

Oh yeah - and I'm calling my closings for the 15th and making sure they have their insurance policy info NOW... if the storm is confirmed for this area, it'll be IMPOSSIBLE to get insurance!!!

Do you have other Hurricane Preparedness ideas?

I like the extra beer idea, that's got to be the most important!  Not sure how accurate Weather.com is, but the 10 day forecast for the area isn't showing anything worse than rain/wind.  Hopefully just another bad thunderstorm!

You're right about the insurance moratorium.  We've already suspended binding coverage on the coast due to Hannah.  I'm sure as she and Ike get closer they will suspend all coverage throughout the state.

I think I'll grab some extra beer as well. Perhaps I too will begin eating all the ice cream. I like those ideas!  What? It's not hitting PA???? Please don't tell my wife! Good Luck down there!

Eat the ice cream, cook the steaks, you betcha.  You never know how long you'll be without power.  I know I've been there - Fran, etc.

The last time we had a hurricane here was October 12, 1962. I remember it well. Keep your head down and eat all of the ice cream.

Yep - the rum idea is a great one!  I'm hoping Penny's right and we just get some much needed rain!

I really enjoy your colorful pictures!  I am bummed though because we just bought a ton of ice cream.  Never been through a hurricane before.  Just tornadoes, riots, earthquakes and fires.

When I lived in Miami it was "get to Home Depot before they're out of plywood!"  Sure is nice to live in the desert now...LOL

Best of luck & keep your spoon ready in case your neighbors have more ice cream than they can eat.
