All of a sudden I have a new member of the family that apparently everyone who see's me even if they know me or not ask - How's business doing?   Who is business? They don't say how are you doing the first sentence out of their mouth is how's business doing?  Now before I got into real estate I didn't have a family member named business. My friends, family and people I didn't even know who ask how are you doing.  Just because the market has shifted doesn't mean the way I do business has shifted.  I just get tired of everyone asking me this.  Of course the media makes things to be worse then it really is. However  I just read today that Charlotte was Named Among Top 5 Cities Where U.S. Home Prices are Likely to Rise. Prices have started to rise and Charlotte was the second most likely city to see home prices start to rise.  Maybe Business is doing well!

Wow Judi, just calm down. That's better. I'm seeing a trend today, everyone is a little upset now the kids are back to school, meaning, yes summer is over...

It's just that I feel like a target because of the media, and just because we are in real estate it's almost like people are wanting me to tell them it's bad..

Judi,  I simply answer, if it's price right it's selling, if not it's sitting!  Are you thinking of buying or selling?  I'd love to help you!  Shuts them up everytime! Or opens the door for real estate.

Sara, I love your answer. Do you mind if I use it the next time I'm asked?

Me too, Every time I get the question I answer "Business is GREAT, I'm able to feed the kids 4 nights a week now."  Like you I miss even the trite "how's it goin'"

That is too funny.  Every time I tell folks what I do they have a look on their face like they feel sorry for me.  Go figure!

I actually like when people ask me "How's business?" It's usually said in a hushed tone, much as if they are inquiring after a sick relative. I enthusiastically and energetically launch into an explanation of the local market, complete with statistics and examples of my success stories, in spite of the doom and gloom headlines.

It may not lead to business now, but when you can back up your arguments with stats and a realistic, yet positive frame of mind, people will remember. There's opportunity in every market...

Hi Judi...I never thought of it like that, you could always say "he/she is in time out" and then you would really get a DUH look...Great post.

Russel Ray told me to come comment here.

Someone else had a similar comment to what mine would be:

"If it's priced right, people are buying what others are selling. Are you interested in buying or selling?"

Hi Judi,
The media is our enemy because they love bad news and they spread it like wildfire.  I think Jim's comment is excellent and I plan to use it.
