Since we definitely don't have enough browser choices, now comes CHROME, a new browser available beginning tomorrow from Google.

More battles between Google and Microsoft, the browser will be packed with security, speed and stability features to rival Microsoft’s long-standing dominant browser, Internet Explorer.

It's open source (like Firefox). Being open source, Chrome combines technology from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla Firefox. Like Firefox and Internet Explorer 8, each tab within Chrome acts as a separate entity. Running their own individual processes, each tab can be closed separately and is ‘sandboxed’, meaning that information on the user’s computer is protected. A unique feature is that each tab has it’s own controls so that you can click, drag and tear it away to be a new window.

Designed to be better for displaying rich interactive web pages with smoother drag and drop actions within websites. With stronger Javascript technology, complex with pages will be displayed more efficiently and the browser should be able to continue working with unchanged performance all day.

The URL entry field, where you type website addresses into, is called ‘Omnibox’ and feeds suggestions based on your browsing history and Google Suggest technology

Competition is a good thing... so we'll see!

Fred, we thought we were the only ones that called it "internet Exploder"....LOL! Made me laugh. Firefox has been crazy for me lately. I need a Mac!

Jeanean...  Well, that's an entirely different story.  Yes, everyone needs a Mac!

Thanks for the heads up ! I use FF for everything but MLS, zipforms, etc. I will get a mac when those issues are resolved. Brought it up to our MLS vendor and he said it is climbing the list  for enhancements. Why does RE programs have to be so slow in getting it. I know about fusion so just waiting. This sounds like it will be a good thing.

That cartoon is amazing and gives a good grasp to the concept, hope folks click on to go see it.

I've been using FireFox for the last year or so and pretty happy with it. Although, I have found some websites are not optimized for FireFox. In those cases I go back to IE. It will be interesting to see if Chrome catches on.

09/02/2008 09:05 AM by Michael Setunsky (Michael's Commercial LLC)

I downloaded it and am using it -- fast, simple -- we will see.

09/02/2008 05:08 PM by Scott Hoen, ePro, MBA (eMarketing Services)

I'm looking forward to playing with it--but won't get rid of FireFox just yet.  (It is a crime to have to use IE for MLS & Zipforms though)

Hi Fred,

Got it last night. It looks interesting. Very clean, simple etc...Can't really use it for everything just yet but I'm sure it will get there.

here's a not to informed question from the peanut gallery: Do browsers really make that much of a difference?

09/04/2008 08:47 AM by Rick Trowe - Go With Trowe (Farmers Insurance Group District Office)

Security features to rival IE?

I'll stick with FireFox.

09/08/2008 08:41 PM by Doug Patterson (Keller Williams - Upstate Realty)

I wanted to check back in with you, Fred. I downloaded chrome, and used it all one day. I honestly like FF much better, what is your opinion?

09/10/2008 06:49 AM by Missy Caulk-Ann Arbor- Realtor(R)- Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams-Ann Arbor)

Missy:  I use a Mac, so we've been 'cut out' of Chrome for the time being, although they are releasing a Mac version soon.

I actually use Safari, Firefox, Opera and sometimes Flock for different things, different reasons.  I'm an equal opportunity employer, but Safari has been my main browser for many years.

Chrome is incredible but i recently went over to Apple for a macbook and though I have a small learning curve I am enjoying it!

Hard to keep adding new browsers -- we use Firefox and IE -- which ever works best.

I bought my Mac a year and a half ago and refer to my PC side as going over to "the dark side." I only do it for real estate apps that aren't available for Mac yet. I keep asking, though. Definitely propeller heads designing at Microsoft! What are the advantages of opera and flock?

09/15/2008 09:30 PM by Sharon Alters, GRI, Realtor Jacksonville-Orange Park-Fleming Island (Watson Realty )

Sharon:  No advantage.. just different browsers.  They're all a bit different and render web pages somewhat differently. I design websites, so I need to check it on a variety of browsers.

The days, most browsers are compliant and are almost identical in how they render web pages.  The only one that has never met web standards and has never been compliant and is STILL not is W$%$@#% Internet Exploder (hence the name).  Microsoft does what they want their own way and hope that everyone follow....   It's more than annoying.  But what can you do?
