credit repair secrets mini e-bookOh, you know I love to hear that, but what if you can't help them?
Last week when I got this call, I was really looking forward to helping this client, but it turns out they might have needed to see a psychiatrist rather than me.

This person contacted me because they were worried about their credit and wanted to know how to improve it. They weren't looking to buy a house right now, but they said they understood that is why I do what I do and were willing to pay me to help them improve their credit. They also promised they would also send me referrals.

This was sounding better and better to me! Someone wants to pay me money to do something that I can do very easily (usually), and wanted to tell their friends about me and my real estate services? OK!

But, as I got further in to their situation, it was more they were obsessed, like some one who is anorexic and thinks they are fat. This person had and average score between the three agencies of 812. Their house paid off, and they were using less than 1% of their available $280,000 in credit. These people didn't have a credit problem, they had a credit obsession.

After looking at their situation, I told them, "You are in the top 1% of borrowers in the United States and there is nothing more you can do! I've only seen one other person with a credit score this high, so be proud of yourself and don't worry about your credit!" They still weren't convinced, but I showed them on internet where they rate. I hope they drop their obsession with credit, because it really was unhealthy! Had they had a 500 credit score and were acting like they were, then I would have completely understood, but they didn't.

If you are the person that called, I am actually going to suggest you write a book, as you may actually know more about credit than I do! Have you ever read a book about how to have a happy marriage from someone who has had 5 husbands or wives? That is about how I felt in this situation.

Geez Todd, we should all be so lucky as to have a score in the 800s. These folks sound like they need to a) get a life, and b) loosen up a little.

TODD - Amazing!  The people that are immanently qualified to buy a home are hesitant, and those with sub 500 scores are still looking for someone that can "make it happen."

Well done.  I would like more buyers with high credit scores.  Often we have to work with people to improve their scores before they can position themselves to buy.

Funny story here Todd.  I had the same credit until I got married.  I tell my wife that she dragged me down.  She says the same about me.

Todd, can you have them call me for a loan. I might be able to get them in on a sub prime deal if we hurry. LOL. Great story. I most often talk to people that think their credit is fine and the score is a 560. Those are the ones I work with to get them to the point they can realistically look at homes.

That is strange and funny at the same time. Maybe they were just pulling your chain- to boast of their great credit score. People are very peculiar!

Todd, you showed class and respect in how you handled this.  Sometimes the reason why in something is not quickly realized, you will be rewarded for you professionalism.

How unusual - great credit and worried about it - not the usual picture we see concerning credit. They should write a book - great suggestion.

Hi Todd,

Welcome to our world. When dealing with our clients it's a good thing their credit score is one of the most important things to them. Good for our business, time consuming for you. You handled it perfectly.

Regards-Lori Isaacson

Hi Todd- So that means you won't be getting those referrals after all :)  Oh well, the next person is already in line for your services :)

Lloyd - I really did want to help them, they just didn't need my help.

John - I think they just keep hearing on the news how it is so important to have good credit and didn't realize how well off they really were.

Tony or Darcy - Thank you!

Adam - Yeah, that does seem to be the case a lot of the time.

Jon - That was the weird part with these folks, they had no desire to buy, and they just wanted a perfect score.

Tom - I wish they were buyers, it would have been nice!

Larry - See what marriage causes (LOL) My wife was an employee of mine and I joke I married her so I could stop paying her and now she gets all my money, what is up with that.

Fred - Those are the ones I get in to lease options or owner financing and give them the chance at home ownership where others won't.

SIB Realty - This person certainly wasn't joking, they were very serious and were really worried about it.

Denise - I think I will also, I could have charged them $500 and told them to do exactly what they are doing and in three months their score will go up.

09/16/2008 01:25 AM by Todd Clark (Realtor), GRI (Your Washington Co. Real Estate Expert) (Kastings & Associates)

Bonnie - I hope they do, I will give it to my clients that actually need it.

Lori - Thanks Lori!

Kathy - I did actually get one of the calls from their friends yesterday and hopefully they will be getting their pre-approval today.
