3 years ago I was at home in a state of panic. It took 2 more days for word to come in that our family (in Biloxi) was safe, and 2 more days after that before they arrived here in Michigan to stay with us for a bit.
3 years later there are still trailers that families are living in, people that haven't been able to return home, and FEMA has decided that transporting ice to hurricane victims is too expensive and not a necessity.
Why is it that 3 years later our government hasn't learned a blasted thing and people are still hurting?
Lisa, I certainly remember everything that happened three short years ago and hope that you'll be safe this time around. Let's pray that this storm misses you and New Orleans.
Lisa, I too am outraged that so little has been done in all that time. It is something I don't believe anyone will forget and I hope you are all very, very safe!
Lisa, this MUST NOT happen again. My memory of it is still vivid. I am praying for all of you. We may all find ourselves ducking soon enough. Be careful.
Lisa.. I can't believe it has been three years. I remember it like it was yesterday. In the mornings when I wait for the school bus with my children, I remember all the children that were displaced... I wonder where they are now.
I still remember seeing this one "news spot" where a mother was having trouble waking up her baby daughter.. she was so dehydrated.. That still haunts me.. I would really like to know where she is and how she is doing.
Lisa, we won't ever forget. I can still remember watching as the residents were being rescued from their roofs. I couldn't believe that was happening! I pray it never happens again. Glad you and your family will be leaving for safe ground...stay in touch. :)
Lisa - I remember. Be careful-I am sure you are busy preparing, in case. We are working out plans for my daughters, grandkids and dogs in Ocean Springs, Ms.
LISA - I can't help but remember Katrina everytime I see another hurricane warning. I hope that Gustav and any other hurricanes spare you and everyone in the hurricane region.
Lisa, Can you believe that here we to again? Even though I am 300 miles from the coast here in Monroe, LA, the impact of Katrina was felt here, too. Not the weather, but the social impact. I know that LA has not recovered, and there are thousands of our brothers and sisters still scattered over the US who have brought their personal tragedies to the entire nation. Please, God, don't let it ever happen again. My daughter and granddaughter are in Algiers, so I visit often. I hope we can share a piece of cake and glass of tea on one of my visits.
Best of luck during your "evacuation-vacation!" If you're in the Monroe area and need a place to plug in your laptop or use a phone, don't hesitate to call me. Gayle Causey Keller Williams Realty Monroe, LA USA http://westmonroerealestate.com
My sweet friend...I was thinking about you all day yesterday. I do remember, and I am praying that you never have to walk through that storm again. GBU!!
My family just now got moved into their "Katrina" cottage and out of their small little FEMA trailer...I am just praying this one is a miss for you and all of my loved ones over there.
Lisa, I pray this one misses you. I just read that they are evacuating. My thoughts and prayers are with you. If you need a place to stay in Alabama, come on up to Huntsville...we have plenty of room:)
Lisa, I'm glad you're tucked away and the kids are following. Homes CAN be replaced. If you have your family then the important things are taken care of. Thank heavens you evacuated. I will keep you in my prayers and close to my heart. Please stay in touch with us and we will all get through this. Our local church is currently preparing for more evacuees. I will do my best to help!
Lisa, you have been on my mind for the last couple of days. I am glad you are safe in TN! I just wish you didn't have to go thru this! I was listening to the news and they kept saying WestBank - My prayers are with you!!
I'm sure you've evacuated by now. I used to live in New Orleans, uptown, in 1990. I know all to well about the area! I wish you all the best for you and your family.
I will never forget and I am very concerned about you right now. I know you probably speak with Amanda Hall and Jason Crouch via phone. Please call them so we know how you are doing even if you cannot sign on.
I am not at all surprised to see the will of the brave and resilient people of New Orleans turn Gustav away - we are all really happy for you and your great city
My bags are packed and the car is gassed up. I am headed south to voluteer again. I will call from the road. One bullet missed ("Gustav" )Nahlins but it also blasted the area west. Stay safe.
Lisa - we need an update girl! Are you and your family ok?? We're expecting Hanna in the next few hours to make her way into the NC area. She's nowhere near what you've gone through... but we'll be ready just the same. Then all our eyes turn to Ike - YIKES!
Pamela, I saw Lisa on Twitter and she was fine - going back I think today. She was waiting on power to be restored. She said she didn't think she had damage. Here is her last tweet.
Rouse's on Belle Chasse Hwy open - Balestra's in Belle Chasse open - Casey Jones in Gretna open - Gas station open on Terry Pkwy
Thank you all for your caring messages!!! I have read them over and over again while we were gone, and I'm happy to say that we are safely back at home with no damage. Please keep those who weren't so lucky in your thoughts.
Lisa, so glad to see you're home and your home wasn't damaged. Whew!!! Spoke with my Aunt in Walker (outside Baton Rouge) today -- they were without electricity until yesterday but no damage to their home.
so glad I found this when I did...you are home and your home is OK. Perfect :) I thought of you so much, and really very glad you didn't have to go through what you did 3 years ago.
Lisa we all remember and hope Gustov misses you also.
