I wish I could pat myself on the back for thinking of this, but I can't.

Best of the bestI owe the thought to Bryant Tutas, friend and fellow blogger, and the best darn REALTOR in Poinciana, Florida. While I have often considered the many articles I have written...some good, some great, some not so good...I have often wondered what happens as they fade into the blogosphere sunset, buried by hundreds of other posts written later. Bryant's post spurred me to action, to create my own Best of my Best collection, sort of my own Week in Review but over a 2-year period (taken ONLY from ActiveRain, of course).

Perhaps you will take on the personal challenge, too.

I bet buyers and sellers who are new to your blog will appreciate this, versus having to scroll through pages and pages of articles, seeking out the best or the ones that grab their interest. Or perhaps not ever doing so, thereby missing some of the gems you have written.

10 reasons I hate bloggingAnd other bloggers here on AR might find articles they missed! And a good learning experience.

Now the big question. How does one decide what articles to include? What makes an article one of the best?

  • The most comments?
  • Being featured?
  • One's own personal take
  • Comments that imply, or more explicitly state, it is one of the best

Well, since I am not asking for votes, I get to make the decision. But hopefully that decision yields a collection that truly is worthy of accolades, for a variety of reasons. Obviously, given the number of things I have written, this was no small task. But there's not much point presenting a huge list if the objective is "best of my best."  I think these were the best...but I could be wrong.

Jeff, Great idea. I did read BB's post and have been thinking and reading about what we can do all day. In regards to what posts to re-post you might want to visit statcountr or a similar site (even our own Active Rain) stat archives. The most read post and searched post I think should be re-posted.

I remember some of those posts...great idea. Now should I go fishing or to a tailgate?

hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm I know do you?

I just read BB's post.  It is so true and this is a great way to make things easier on our readers.  I have catagories and a search mechanism on my "outside" blog but I sometimes wonder it they truly help my readers find the best posts.  I love this!

Mana - thanks. I actually went through the entire list in the Statistics. I decided to use some that read by lots of folks but that was not the only criterion. Some things I thought were really good were not read as much, as vice versa. Anyhow, it was quite a journey anbd interesting to see how my writing has shifted in style, topics, focus, etc.

Diane - well we have the tags, too, but even those can get unweildy (through our own doing). This made sense to me. In any case it was fun even if no one looks.

I love these best of the best post. I have read several of your post and bookmarked your blog so I could come back later. Thanks.

08/28/2008 08:25 PM by Linda Breeding (FrontGate Properties)

Jeff this is a good.  It makes it easier for everyone to find a blog that interest them, and it would not be a bad idea to repost it every once and a while

08/28/2008 09:52 PM by George Souto (McCue Mortgage Co.)

Hi Jeff, I had read almost every thing you wrote the first year-remember. But I am glad you did this and that it is your perspective of what you think is the best. I am going to book mark this on del.icio.us for everyone or anyone that would like to use my share my tags.

Hi Jeff,

Like William, I think I've read just about everything you've done. With so many great ones it's tough to narrow it down. For me I think it's all your great localisms, where I've learned so much more about your community.

Hey Jeff. Thanks for the link love!!! I wish I could take creidt for this but it was Barry Cunningham who got me thinking. It does make sense thought to resurrect some ofour older post. I started posting "oldies but goldies"several months ago for this exact reason.

Now make sure to blame Barry when AR looks like a rerun site for the next couple of weeks. :)

That's a great idea! Maybe I'll wait until I have 100 posts to choose from (less than 15 to go!).

08/29/2008 12:46 PM by January Financial

There is a new toot your own horn group, started by my friend Bo Hussung. this post might be a good boost for that new group.

I think it is a good thing to have the posts that a good blogger thinks are his best.

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks, Linda.

George - well it was fun to wade my way through and even re-read some of the oldies.

William - Thanks. I sure appreciate the compliment.

Lynda - I think, overall, that as a group those are my favorites to write. At least I find them easier. Thanks for stopping by and for the compliment.

BB - well there you go. You get credit for this idea, but I will blame him when the reruns start. I do think reposting older post that are good is a great idea...I just haven't done it as you have.

JF - congratulations on getting close. I remember when I hit 100. It seemed like such a huge challenge starting off. You can start looking toward 200 now!

Richard - I'll take a look. Sounds like a fun group to be part of.

Jeff, I reworked one of my early posts.  It got no interest first time out.  Second time around, it got a little gold star.  I guess when you think about it, we're better bloggers now - better graphics and tigher writing.

08/31/2008 12:10 AM by Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company)

Hi Jeff, I think that's a great idea to rerun some of the early posts or like yourself go back into your archives and rewrite some of you earlier post.

I myself being a newbie here, I'am still learn my way around. On the blogs I only go maybe 6 to 8 pages deep, then click out.

Maybe a group to store "best of the best by popular demand" here on A/R; just a taught.~ Newbie Roy

08/31/2008 10:14 AM by Roy Peterson P.R.E.I. (Domicile Analysis of Texas)

Patricia - well I certainly found that when i went back through some earlier things were not all that great for a variety of reasons. And some topics deserve to be ressurected.

Roy - Welcome to AR!

That's an interesting idea. I might just add another tag to be used for those more memorable posts, although the tag list is now so long it might get lost. A group might be just the thing, however.
