WeKnowUrban.com went from 350 unique visitors on Sunday to 606 on Monday by adding this one image to the home page and shooting out an e-mail to our data base about it.

Google satellite map of the new Phoenix Tempe light rail route

Not very exciting is it?  The satellite image is of the greater Phoenix area and the red line represents where our new light rail system is going in.  Although rather boring to most, because our web site focuses exclusively on the "urban living" enthusiast this is a very relevant image for our visitors.

More importantly, the map it links to offers information that our viewers really want and will drive up the "average time on" that page.  Relevant and "value added" content; that's what visitors want.  Not weather links and golf links and cooking recipes.  Speak to your specific audience and your traffic and stickiness will jump.

That's a great example of placing valuable content on your website and also how effective email marketing can be.

I have been fiddling around with Google Maps and I find it very useful. The customizing capability is awesome.

Providing added value to websites is always a good idea.  However, golf, gas and weather info is also useful to many people so I give them choices.  As long as you're tracking the results, you can eliminate what isn't being accessed for something else  It is an ever changing process.   Thanks for the tip about Google Maps and our own specific areas.

Susan, perhaps a bit flippant on my part about the golf and weather.  Sorry about that.  I just try to narrow the focus as much as possible so that I am super relevant to my audience.  Great point about measuring results and adjusting from there.

Good info is always key- unless the house you want to buy is right by the big red line!

Interesting idea with the map and sending the email.

It is great that you watch the stats that closely.

Thank you for the idea!
