One of the things I like to do as a Marketing & Business consultant is visit web sites to see what people are doing. I like to think that ActiveRainers have web sites that are a bit better than the average web site, but I'm beginning to believe that's not so.

I've found several web sites that have dead links, contact forms that bring up a new window that says "no information available," phone numbers without area codes (remember that someone outside your area code might need your services), etc.

I've sent many of you private emails detailing the problems with your web sites, but since I found so many problems, I just decided that notification needed wider circulation through a blog entry.

If you haven't sat down and gone through your web site and clicked on the links to see if they actually work, make plans to do that in the next few days.

Don't worry, I do it on my own web sites, and occasionally I'll find a link to someone else that has been changed, or when uploading a document I had a typo, or whatever. We all do it, but each time you do something, or your webmaster does something, check out what they just did. Then, at least once a quarter, but preferably monthly, check all the links on your web site. If you have Internet-savvy children, it could be a great family activity.

Amazing how poorly some of the agents out there design and maintain their websites.

Good advice. I've noticed a few problems like you mention also and assume that the website isn't an active part of their business.

I agree.

The disappointing thing with my site is I would like my clients to go there to download or upload forms. But I have to do that from my email program(s).

Our web sites should be the central point of communication for our client base.

I try to check my website periodically to make sure that things are functioning properly. Thanks for the reminder. ~ Evelyn
