Didn't you join Activerain for business reasons? Wasn't your initial endeavor aimed at getting a few referrals and building a relationship or two? I know it was mine. Somewhere along the way we've all become obsessed with points, which come from comments! I know it's been a focus of mine MAINLY because I've learned that Activerain has some pull on Google, which means highly commented blogs end up high in the google ranks as well!

Lately I read a blog which relayed a very simple concept which apparently has escaped many people. I want to give credit where credit is due so http://activerain.com/blogsview/137735/Have-You-Considered-Reciprocating Check it out.

Basically, what she's saying is that if we all took a little time out of our days to comment on people's blogs who've commented on ours we'd all have an endless comments and in the end, start building those relationships that will ultimately get us the referrals and the google ranking we're looking for. On sites like MySpace.com it's pretty much expected.

It seems like blog comments are what everyone is really worried about here so I hope that helps, it's a little regurgitation of what was already said but if we all start doing this I think it'll boost the community and give us all better results in the process.

BTW I practice what I preach so everyone who leaves a comment I will do my BEST to comment back on. Give me a little time, please be patient, I'll do my best to comment on everyone's. Make it practice to do the same!

3 Comments on The SECRET to Infinite comments and Reciprocity

Hi Ben,  I read that initial post and think the practise makes a lot of sense.  I try to reply to comments but admit I am a bit behind.

Ben - The Lovely Wife's Blogs are always amazing and I agreed with her when she posted the blog you referred to and I agree with you too. I joined AR to build relationships, gain contacts, get referrals and so on just like everyone else. I really believe you should comment on everyone that comments on yours as well as picking a few random post that you enjoy reading and share your thoughts/comments. It cant always be a take-take situation right? Give & Take equality and sincere opinions from your professional colleagues is what its all about.

I just joined AR the middle of August at the suggestion of a local Realtor (Thanks Kathy!).  I joined to let Realtors in our area know that Newcomers Welcome Service is here to serve their clients, to let anyone from the general public who views the site to know about our wonderful service,  and to increase our presence on Google.  Once I understood how the points could help others I adopted the goal of commenting on 4 local posts each day and 2 that are of particular interest to me (limiting it to 2 is hard, there is so much great information here!).  I hope my comments help someone along the way.
