Didn't you join Activerain for business reasons? Wasn't your initial endeavor aimed at getting a few referrals and building a relationship or two? I know it was mine. Somewhere along the way we've all become obsessed with points, which come from comments! I know it's been a focus of mine MAINLY because I've learned that Activerain has some pull on Google, which means highly commented blogs end up high in the google ranks as well!
Lately I read a blog which relayed a very simple concept which apparently has escaped many people. I want to give credit where credit is due so http://activerain.com/blogsview/137735/Have-You-Considered-Reciprocating Check it out.
Basically, what she's saying is that if we all took a little time out of our days to comment on people's blogs who've commented on ours we'd all have an endless comments and in the end, start building those relationships that will ultimately get us the referrals and the google ranking we're looking for. On sites like MySpace.com it's pretty much expected.
It seems like blog comments are what everyone is really worried about here so I hope that helps, it's a little regurgitation of what was already said but if we all start doing this I think it'll boost the community and give us all better results in the process.
BTW I practice what I preach so everyone who leaves a comment I will do my BEST to comment back on. Give me a little time, please be patient, I'll do my best to comment on everyone's. Make it practice to do the same!
Hi Ben, I read that initial post and think the practise makes a lot of sense. I try to reply to comments but admit I am a bit behind.
