I read Jeff Belonger'swonderful post just today about the re-bloggng feature and when used in the correct way, I certainly agree it can get your name "out there" and help your business. I have been careful, however, to uncheck the box and not allow it because there is almost not a day that goes by that I don't get a Google Alert that shows one of my blogs or posts has been used.
Until recently I have always been given credit for it--although, in most cases at the bottom and I too questioned whether people scrolled all the way to the bottom. Here is what I came across on a very recent post that I had created right here on ActiveRain:
Feng Shui COLORS from a New York Feng Shui Consultant's Perspective
By Mexlisxsa Cxoxlxexmxaxn
I want light and love color and years ago, in Feng Shui, there were some hard and fast rules about color choices. Some colors, it was said, were destined to ruin an area of your life if used incorrectly...only certain colors would ...

*I have X'ed out and crossed out the site as well--- but I wanted to get this message out. I believe this can hurt your business, not HELP it. And I certainly believe that anyone that appears to use YOUR words by putting their name on it and directing your post to THEIR site is not something that would have occurred to me before.
Hold on a minute, this is MY Blog, word for word....However, if you click on the post to read more (and see if YOUR name is anywhere to be found, you are redirected to a page promoting THEIR site. This particular page is filled with the beginning of Blog Posts (one by a very good Feng Shui Consultant friend) who I notified as well. She wasn't given credit for her article, either.
Until now I have never really minded people using my posts as long as I am credited; few have asked, most I have found through Google Alerts. But this to me was absolutely unacceptable and unbelievable. I posted a reply to remove my post as it is copyrighted and waited. When it was not removed (and my comment deleted) I went back to the page to email them directly--and again I was ignored.
I took the time and reported it to Google and took MORE time to told them that I had done so. Then (and only then) did I get a reply. Which essentially said that if I have an RSS feed on either my site OR my blog I had better remove them--by having an RSS feed I am, in fact, ALLOWING other places to use MY original works. I'm no tech person but I know that not to be true and I am also upset that instead of taking responsibility for her wrongdoing, she would somehow find a way to accuse ME of making an error (by writing a blog and having an RSS feed?).
I have X'ed out her name because I am not looking to hurt anyone. Neither will I allow others to take credit for my work. I wondered if there is any validity to the fact that having an RSS feed "allows" my original content to be used in a manner that appears to give someone else credit for it?
**It is STILL up, any suggestions as well as reporting it to Google? Please note: It says HER site is copyrighted and it's contents belong to the owner and cannot be used--
There is another side to this coin of reblogging and thw whole idea of Plagarism, this one taking it to a new level. How do you stop this from happening? It seems lately I have spent more time having to report the use of my blogs then actually BLOGGING :(
**The post has been removed I believe but I was ALSO instructed by this person that I would have to go through their entire site to see if any more of my blogs are on there. If they are, I certainly will notify Google FIRST.

Holy Moly ! That makes me sick and upset. I am sorry that happened. I can only imagine the feeling of reading that post. I am no techie so I cannot provide info about how the whole thing works and to be honest, I dont understand the "reblog" idea. I know there has been a ton of posts about it but I have not taken the time to read them as of yet...
Am very interested to see how this plays out for you. Dont let it get to you too much though... is not worth it. At least you caught it early on... The scary thing though is how much more this is happening and we will never know about it. I take it the only way you know is for the google alert, correct ?
