During this time when the banks are tightening up and being very careful who they lend money to it is important to make sure your credit report is in good shape.  If you have poor credit you should be working on ways to improve it so down the road you can take advantage of all the great things good credit gets you.  Make sure you pay your bills on time and if you use credit cards always pay a couple of days early and never just pay the minimum balance.  Even if you are having a tough month its important to always pay an amount over the minimum amount due. You can even just add a few dollars to the minimum amount and this will help because computers keep track of who pays just the minimum balance. 

Having no credit history is not a great position to be in either because the banks don't know how you will pay if they give you money so establish credit by getting a credit card or two and use them wisely and pay off the entire amount as soon as the bill comes in.  By paying your bills on time and using your credit cards wisely and showing that you pay early and more than is due, you will have good credit sooner than you think.
