WOW,

I just wrote a blog...Gasoline prices...how can they change 15 cent's w/in a few blocks??? and then I see on the new's that the UPS guys now only make RIGHT TURNS!

Somehow, right turn's apparently save gas...

Not sure how, however...now that I know that...am I going to refigure my routes??? You betcha!

If the UPS driver's power's that be...figured this out...I'm all over it!

They have now re-routed their driver's, have changed delivery routes...I mean...who drives more than delivery trucks???

Anyone else feel the same?

Karen -

Perhaps right turns save gas, but won't they add mileage to get the driver where he or she is going?

Maybe i'm missing something here!

Karen~  Well, coming home you are going to have to make the left turns, LOL.  I think it is more or less something to write about, but WHO REALLY knows??

ok - I gave this ALOT of thought,Karen.  the best I could come up with is that with left turns you may have to sit and idle while waiting for oncoming traffic to pass - and that would be extra gas being used, as opposed to not having to wait and just turning right! :)

Great post!! Thanks for the tip.

Dean,

The way I saw it on the new's tonight...They have re-routed their truck's...changed the way they deliver. It might not be easy to do...but instead of going west first...I think I will schedule my east appointment's first...then go west...make any sense?

Wonder how it could save gas, maybe because they don't have to wait for the traffic light?  Mine our mostly left hand turns, get about 13 mpg--we have 2 gas guzzlers!

Vickie,

Absolutely not...If I do the full circle...it's all right turn's for me.

This is all over the news lately.  Snopes took a look at it back in 2007 and decided not to call it a hoax.

Kara,

Absolutely correct, you can keep moving and don't have to sit and wait for the next green light!

Glad you got it!

Linda,

Make's total sense to me...you can make legal right turn's on red..if you want to turn left...you have to sit and wait for the light!

Ernie and Barb,

Think about it...you can make a legal right turn on red, if there is no traffic, however, if there is a red light and you are trying to turn left...you wait and waste gasoline!

Genious! I say!  Great observation.

Bill,

Think about this, it makes total sense...you don't have to wait for the light to turn green...if there is no traffic...you can make the right turn and keep going.

Whoever came up with this theory at UPS should get a raise or promotion.  I never gave it much thought until tonight.

I can go full circle and make many right turn's...here in Florida, it's a grid...don't have to turn around and make left turn's!

I will agree with this, I always try to make right turns because not only will it save gas but you usually get to you destination quicker.

I guess we are all looking for ways to save...almost anything sounds good. I'm sure this can work because you don't have to wait to turn as often, but really how much savings are we talking for an individual? For a large company like UPS, I'm sure the small savings for each truck adds up to BIG savings.

Trey,

I guess it depend's where you live...here in South Florida...with all the traffic...it's a great idea!

Robert...

I don't know if it will get you there quicker...I think it depends on the geography of where you live...South Florida is a grid...so you can do the loop...

How the flock can making Right Turns save money. Seems to me that making left turns would be safer since the driver is on the left side of the vehicle.

Sean,

It's all about sitting idling in traffic...if you keep turning left and there is no traffic...you can keep going...However, to make a left hand turn you need to wait for the light.

Less idle time..Safety is not the issue here...it's gas consumption...less idle time...

I think it is an interesting concept. I would have to think about my route, and see if I would be going out of my way to make all right turns.

Julie,

It's easy here in Florida, It's like a grid...So think about it as a peice of graph paper...mostly square.
