Charlotte is still growing!

Charlotte is among the top 10 U.S. cities in population growth, rising to the nation's 19th-largest city according to U.S. Census estimates released Wednesday.

Despite a downturn in the Natioanal economy, the Carolinas continue to grow. Experts expect this region to continue it's growth through the slowdown.

Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, and Fort Mill and Rock Hill, S.C., are all showing population increases of more than 5 percent from July 2006 to July 2007.

The estimates are "consistent with what's been going on for some time in these areas," said state demographer Bill Tillman. Although it is important to note that the results of this census are a year old. Charlotte has continued its growth through this time, albeit a bit more conservative.

"Right now, the growth is slowing a little bit because it's harder for people to leave where they were because they can't sell their house," said Tom Hanchett, a historian at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte.

What this says to me is that the Charlotte area is still an attractive new home for many people, and I couldn't agree more. If you are able to sell your house in Florida, Ohio, or New York--you will be welcomed to Charlotte with open arms. And in this part of the country, you will be getting a good fair price for your new home, and you may even be getting a bargain--because Charlotte is HOT right now!

Rich -- Great Blog. My husband and I moved to the Charlotte area last year and have been amazed at the growth even just since we moved here. This area continues to impress us, and it is so empowering to live in an area embracing growth. As a business owner and resident, I can't think of anyplace I would rather live than Charlotte right now.

Hi Therese,

You're so right! What a great place to call home. My wife and I relocated to Charlotte NC 5 years ago from New Jersey and haven't looked back. We love it here. Between the people, affordable housing, lower taxes and you can't beat the weather....

Enjoy life

Rich
