Unhand my Betty! If you have a moment of time to spend on me I would appreciate it.  I got robbed, held up, shook down.

This common crook has stolen my blog content.  Entire blog posts word for word have been copied and posted, right from my feedblitz newsletter.

Since this is a blogger.com blogger it has a little spot at the top for the public to flag it as a spammer site.  If you can spare a moment and do so, I would appreciate it. I've done it and some of my twitterers did, too.  I even contacted Lowes Home Improvement to let them know a theif is operating under their name.

My real content is at www.LifeInBonitaSprings.com so you can see how exact it was copied.  Thank you for your assistance.  The splogger site with my stolen content is:

fastads1.home@blogger.com  is the culprit - do you belong to that

I would start signing your blog - it looks like it was just reprinted or added like google places ads on your page content.

07/05/2008 07:45 AM by Cyndi Kerr (Sandals Realty)

Chris - you can go into the googleads part and flag it there too.

07/05/2008 07:47 AM by Steve Scheer - Denver Real Estate - Highlands Ranch Real Estate (RE/MAX Masters, Inc.)

Chris, I clicked the title of the blog and it opens your website, Maybe it is not that bad after all?

I have had this happen to me too, but the "thieves" actually yse my name in an intro.  Strange how they find us and re-post our stuff

07/05/2008 07:48 AM by Robert Rauf (REMN The Real Estate Mortgage Network)

Chris - I flagged it. My other blog was copied on Blogger as well. The person is using it to sell google ads I am sure.

07/05/2008 07:49 AM by Gary Waters - Real Estate Agent Viera Suntree (Century 21 Baytree Realty www.moving2brevard.com)

thats what I am saying, they even used your photo, its like it was reposted and if you had your author information that would be the same - and if you included a link to your webpage.....

I understand the frustration and yes anger - but isn't it also good advertising in a way?  and what a compliment - you authored such a great piece it was stolen.  Now that's a compliment. :)

07/05/2008 07:49 AM by Cyndi Kerr (Sandals Realty)

Betty... I flagged it.

Anyone else... Do you have an ideas on what to do when someone copies text & graphics from on non-blog website?

07/05/2008 07:53 AM by Jim Calabrese (RealEstateSigns.com)

Chris,

I flagged it for you as well......I never took the time to see if anyone copies my content but I spend a lot of time in localism and they would just be advertising my homes or area.....

07/05/2008 07:55 AM by Julie Chapman Realty Homes Brunswick Georgia

Wow yes I would agree sign your blogs it would make it more difficult for the content to be stolen. I will go report it as well. Good luck with everything.

Chrisbrogan.com wrote a story about my blog last week.  He recommended I sign my posts and I just actually started that on my post that went out at 3:00 this morning.  Oh well.

Steve, I actually looked for the google leads report button and missed it. I'll go  back.

07/05/2008 08:11 AM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

Wow, that is pretty bold.  You'd figure they would at least credit you somehow.

07/05/2008 08:15 AM by Rebecca @ Schrader Inc. - Mobile Home Financing Specialists

Would a "Credit" make me feel better or be seen by anyone that thinks this is alright if the site was selling adult toys and viagra?

I get paid by the local paper to create words in the form of a column and for the paper's blog. How come they pay to use my content but the splogger doesn't?

Done...

What a shame, I need to check mine as it does get splogged quite often, maybe there is another site, set up but I know the content is out there, how did you find it? Google alerts? Of course many times they change my name, Ethal is one of them.

Curious...

Chris,

I don't understand this whole thing...isn't it creating more 'google juice' for you, and linking back to your site?

On another note, I don't like the ads on Active Rain that have a competitor's ad on my blog...!

See, I don't understand!

The internet is like chaos in cyberspace!!!

Thanks,   Fran

07/05/2008 12:02 PM by Fran 'The Title Man' Gaspari Title Insurance-PA & NJ (Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.)

Fran, I wrote it, I created it, I took every picture and someone has stolen the information and put it on their dispos-a-blog to make money by having related google adwords on the page, without my persmission or any monetary benefit to me, the owner.  On top of that, they are deceiving the public that stumbles onto MY data.

As I said before to a few people that thought it was no big deal....what if they were selling porn, dealing in kiddie issues or selling viagra?  Where is this line that should be drawn?  It is my property and if I wanted generate money using adwords I'd have adwords on my freeking site.

Hi Chris,  Yes, flagged it !  Just curious - why don't people name the individual who has done the deed ?  Legal reason, professional courtesy, just wonderin !

07/05/2008 01:19 PM by Bill Gillhespy Fort Myers Beach Realtor (Century 21 Tripower Realty)

I posted earlier this week about the same thing happening to me.  I sent a "Cease and Desist" email to the person and the next day all my stolen content was removed.  I would not bother with flagging. Blog post theft is a violation of copyright law - remind the thief of that, and let him know you are serious by completing the initial step before taking legal action, a "Cease and Desist Notification".

07/05/2008 01:32 PM by Andrew Kyle - Calgary Condo Realtor (Royal LePage Foothills)

I'll go an flag as well.

Chris, go to this site www.plagiarismtoday.com for instructions on how to file a DMCA with Google to take the site down. Also, do a WHOIS to see if the splogger is in the US. If they're not, all you can get Google to do is put a no-follow tag and then they'll list the splogger in Chilling Effects.

I had this happen to me but the originator was located in the Czech Republic. They set up these sites simply to earn money from Google Ads. I followed the instructions from the plagiarismtoday site and got a no-follow tag and the articles of mine that they copied supposedly won't be listed in a search for those keywords.

Regarding others comments that the linking to your real blog is good ... it's NOT. These sploggers select the higher traffic blogs, then eventually their Google PR increases because of the good content and keywords. Pretty soon, they'll be competing with you on page 1 and eventually overtake you. The higher their traffic is, the more money they make on their Google Ads. So you don't want their links.

Hi Chris - This is one of the nice things about having a large online social network -- when something like this happens, we can react quickly in force. I've flagged it, and hope this comes to a quick resolution. Have a great time at the 5th party!

Unfortunately it happens more often than not.  It's great that you are writing about it and the "bandit" may get discouraged.  Too bad there isn't some sort of "hotline" to report the thiefs! In lieu of the hotline I've flagged the post.

Now go bust them up, girlfriend! You need us to do anything else besides flag it, let us know. The FBI handles copyright violations, WTF, give them a call bay-bay. I'm sure they have some site set up somewhere where you can register a complaint.

Flagged again by me. This thing seems to be on complete auto-pilot. I hope they find the person behind this. I see the irony that they even captured your quote from FDR: "Real estate cannot be lost or stolen, nor can it be carried away. Purchased with common sense, paid for in full, and managed with reasonable care, it is about the safest investment in the world." Whole. New. Meaning.

Flagged it for you.  What lazy lazy people.  They probably spend more time looking for things to steal, when with all the time they waste, could have thought of something themselves....or not.

Hey Chris,

This stuff is happening more and more. People find it easier to steal than create their own content for their pages.

This may have been an automated process. They are sometimes called "scraper" sites; programs that search the internet and "scrape" content from other sites. The main purpose is to get content to have the search engines rank them high and have ads all over to make money.

More than likely, the time between your post and the person stealing it was a good amount of time. This helps prove to the search engines that your content was the original and you won't get hit with a duplicate content penalty...the crook will...especially since you have some Page Rank in Google and they don't.

Good luck with this, but don't stress too much...chances are it will happen again with some other site

Hi Chris...I flagged it also.  I wanted to write a comment on each one saying that this was plagiarized from your site but I did not know how to do it.

I wish we could find out who is doing this so we could let them know what we think of this type of behavior.  If this is an agent they need to be exposed.

If you find out who it is, please let us know.

Chris: I'm not sure if you did this already, but you can report specifics to Blogger/Google by clicking here: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=82114&blog_ID=&blog_URL= Only you can report this. Others cannot do it for you. I have had my content stolen before too. Somehow it wound up on a blog site about Benazir Bhutto. It was crazy. I was not able to track down the owner of the blog - someone in Pakistan - and I doubt it would have done any good anyway. Good luck with this.

I'll be more than happy to oblige.... I just went over there and came back here. I missed the part where you said you had contacted Lowes. That blog is totally confusing! What purpose does it serve for the owner? I don't get WHY they would want to make it look like all that content is their own. What are they selling for themselves? What's the purpose of the blog?

So reprehensible! Happened to me with another site, not my current blog. I got a screen capture and copied links as evidence. Notified the Realtor, their Broker, My Broker, my website host, their website host, my local Board and my Attorney. The Realtor had copied my entire site and proceeded to make changes to all of my contact information with her own. Unbelievable! It's called stealing. There's nothing flattering about it. There are copyright and itellectual property laws. Fortunately, it was removed within a matter of hours. Good luck to you.

If you click the above link it will take you to a site that has nothing to do with our site.  Yet, since our site is a highly indexed web property, occasionally, we'll have folks to use our name (needanotary.net) in their keywords and in senseless ways in their website content to steal traffic.

Google has got pretty good at de-indexing pages without any conversation from us.  It used to be a big problem, as there was once about 20,000 such links across the Internet after our site was included in the Open Directory.
