After 18 years selling Real Estate  you have encountered many things. This one is new to me. A couple of months ago I did a drive by CMA on a home owned by a man who lives out of state, he didn't want to alert the tenants to a possible sale. Now 2 months later he calls me to list it. The tenants are his mother and step dad. I call them to gain access....No way are you coming in this house neither is my son and a whole tiraid of other unspeakables. The son has hired an ttorney and is going through the court system to evict what he now calls the occupants. Do you think that the fact they have lived there rent free for the last 5 years has anything to do with their reluctance to move? Things must be bad if you have to evict your mother.    www.MontroseHomeConnection.com

That sounds like a tough deal. They lived for free and they are calling the son a terrible person and such...come on.

Wow...I guess this economy is affecting everybody a little bit... I'm sure we don't know all the details of this one ...and thanks for sharing.  Good luck with the listing...he he! JC in Vegas

Yeah Alan that stinks.  There are always three sides to this type of story...his, hers and the truth.  The lesson that people should learn from this is to not enable people.  It is surprising how quickly people will find a way to survive and even then be able to thrive when the saftey net is yanked and able people are then responsible for themselves....I know from expereince.  Enabling people is a future nightmare and relationship destroyer.  I find that people who are enabled suffer from very low self esteem and are actually in the long run much worse off.  Good luck with the sale

I don't think you should take the listing- too many problems..will take up too much of your time...

Talk about family dysfunction!  Who knows what's been going on in that family over the years?  Good luck!

I'll take the other side even in subsidized housing the tenant pays something, It is great if a relative rents you a place at below market value but not paying anything and then being upset when a non-performing asset needs to be sold is too bad for mom, and step-dad it's time to pay or go.

Alan... WOW, that's harsh, I can't even imagine being in this situation...  I'm not so sure if I would even want to take the listing.

Maybe he is going to move his family into a better home and location. As professionals we should never jump to conclusions.

By the way that is a stunning picture.
